I think the last reigning world champion to win the OGM was Scott Hamilton. For the men, anyway.

you are correct. last lady to do it was Tara Lipinski... I think?

Yes, and that's where the "rule" reverses itself:

1987 World Champion: Katarina Witt
1991 World Champion: Kristi Yamaguchi
1993 World Champion: Oksana Baiul
1997 World Champion: Tara Lipinski

After that:

2001 World Champion: Michelle Kwan
2005 World Champion: Irina Slutskaya

Pairs:
Vol/Morozov (she is the best female pair skater and I cant wait until they get medals!)
D/D (although people say that their programs lack the choreography, I still like them. They have the grace, flow, and she so dignified!)

Men:
Abbott
Chan
? Oda/Kozuka

Dance:
Del/Sch (their Pink Floyd program is one of my favourites ever. Sorry, V/M, but this time the veterans made it better! I hope they will come to LA.. It would be so great to see V/M and Del/Sch programes in one event!)
D/W (absolutely stunning this year!)
Kerrs (stunning more than ever)

Ladies:
Sarah Meier (I adore her, she is the most charming, musical and emotional skater in the world. Thus the best IMO).
Rachael Flatt (my new favourite)
Joannie Rochette (mature, elegant and powerful)

Very true. In fact only three male reigning world champs over the last 50 years have won the Olympics the following season. (1960-David Jenkins, 1972-Ondrej Nepala, 1984-Scott Hamilton)

For the women, until the last decade, there had only been one other period in the last half century when the reigning champ did not win, 1976-1984 (Dorothy Hamill, Annett Potzsch and Katarina Witt).

Mukhortova & Trankov
Savchenko & Szolkowy
Dube & Davison

Ice Dance
Davis & White
Kerr & Kerr
Delobel & Schoenfelder

well not in that exact order but there are just so many teams I like I can't decide a podium for this  except Davis and White, I really want them on the podium
