This is an interesting article, as I was looking for the post that I read a week ago or so wherein a poster mentioned why don't skaters have a PayPal button on their individual sites so that those whom appreciate their skating can donate? in order to help a little to offset the gargantuan cost (e.g. I noticed Charlotte Maxwell & Nick Traxler's site doesn't have one http://www.gomaxtrax.com ) nor do any of the other ice dance teams hosted by http://www.ice-dance.com

I just find it strange and kind of sad because there is no shame in having one added to a site. In fact 99% of the sites I visit online have one, be it a hobby, discussion board, individual site, et al. Under Categories, one only needs to add "donate". Tada. :)

Heck, it costs money to even host a site, so why not get as much help as you possibly can!?!

Just my thoughts for the day...

EDITED TO ADD: oops, goofed again, just now noticed that a few of the lower level ice dance teams (e.g. intermediate & novice) have write-ups about the cost/expense & how to donate. :) Still, I wish they would put up a video so that one can see how they skate (taking into account the person has never seen them skate before) before donating. JMHO.

I guess skating is crawling back into the real world now that Vancover in a year away.

“We’re very fortunate here in the United States that the skaters do receive considerable assistance,” said Charlene Wong

I love Charlene, but I would not say that american skaters receive "considerable assistance." True there are sponsors and scholarships out there, but they are few and far between, not something every young aspiring skater can take advantage of. USFSA Clubs do provide a small budget for travel expenses, but it is not much.

Juniors teams have a page too, for example: http://hubbells.ice-dance.com/08sponsorship.html or http://chock-zuerlein.ice-dance.com/support.html

There's a thread here linking to Adam Rippon's website, and he has information on how to donate. That's a successful senior level skater! I'm surprised that's still needed at that level. But maybe some skaters are just more fortunate with the sponsorship issue.

In the early days of Lambiel, it was his fans who paid for his skating - and not just the Swiss fans. They also formed a goup for traveling together and you can see the bunch in the stands with the Swiss Flags. I don't know if Johnny's Angels donate or form a travel group.
