Does anyone know why the starting order for the OD is exactly the same as for the CD? I was rather surprised. To me it's a bit strange that the leading team is in the 2nd warm-up group whereas the second last team is in the last group. I prefer some order. ;)

I think there might have been a mistake there. When I checked earlier the Zaretskis were in the next to last group, not in the second group, and the last two groups were of the top teams. So I'm not sure what's going on and which order was the right one. I do hope the Zaretskis finally skate a good competition, they've been having no luck at all this year.

The original dance is done, and the Zaretskis lead with 88.44 after the first two parts of the competition - I think that's about two points ahead of Rubleva/Shefer. Scores for the OD are here and protocols are here. I like that we can see protocols after each stage, I hope the ISU will do that in future events (I know, not likely).

Good for Ozerova / Enbert - this could have easily been a Chinese sweep. I like the team, they seem quite blank right now - but they have good basics, good matching lines.

Urghhh, Menshov really is one of the strangest skaters around. 25th in the short, 1st in the free. I also think he is the first one to land two Quads in one freeskate this season. Apart from Menshov, Ming Xu and Borodulin it looks a bit like a disaster...

Berntsson was struck by Zayak, an entire 3-3 in the second half not counted.

The men's event has me a bit in shock at the moment. I just saw the results and can't believe that Konstantin Menshov was 25th in the SP and then won the free skate!

Also, I thought Alban Préaubert would win this hands down, but then the results came out like this.

Oops, Medusa beat me to the final standings, so I'll edit them out. ;)

Well, I knew that Menshov has the big jumps - I was devastated to see him as far down as 25th after the short. I was actually hoping that he would make the Russian National team this season, but he came in 6th... He turns 26 tomorrow I think, I doubt he will ever eradicate those massive consistency issues. Which is a shame.

About Préaubert - if Ponsero bombs at Worlds now and France only has two spots for the Olympics - the French Federation can comfort itself with the fact that Préaubert wasn't / isn't a much safer bet that Ponsero.

Borudulin has two really serious jump issues, the inconsistent 3A and the Flutz. I hope he can sort this out at some point. It could hold him back from big success. Does anybody know the Russian World Team? Is it Lutai and Voronov - or is Borodulin still a possibility?

Borodulin was the 2nd on Russian nats so he should go to the Worlds.
I don't know - Lutai pretty much outskated Voronov and especially Borodulin at Europeans. Do the Nationals placements matter that much? And Borudulin failed to land a 3A in the free at this competition again. Borudulin was only 13th at Europeans - if he skates like that at Worlds he might place outside of the Top Twenty and Russia's second spot at Olympics is gone. Lutai and Voronov even have a theoretical chance to win 3 spots if both bring their A-game.

Me too. I like them a lot. I think they need better programs, since they - especially her - have tons of personality that can be developed with the right sort of music. But for a team who is in their first full season together (they paired up in 2007) and who had a pretty unfortunate injury that interrupted their season, this is a good result. They have a good team behind them, so hopefully they'll get better. I like how they always seem to get high levels in their elements.

Lutai and Voronov are going to Worlds! It counts the result from Euros.

The same with the ladies. Leonova ist going to Words.

Alban is constantly undermarked.

Work of judges is really big question. I saw the best three man in short program - Preaubert, Borodulin, Bacchini. Alban and Artem had extremely low components for their short program. Bacchini was far behind them looking at whole presentation and skating skills (well, Preaubert's skating skills are not the best but he improved a lot, Artem's skating technique is cleaner, but Alban has better jumps). Alban's and Artem's short program was really about something and it was interesting while Bacchini only presented jumps (he was struggling at landing in 3axel) and quite interesting steps with poor skating skills. But the distance between Alban and Artem was only 0.1 point and Bacchini was 0.5 point behind them. Humorously small distance which was not adequate to what they really did on the ice. And the best components went to Machida and Chinese men (we all know that Chinese men are not very good dancers) got only 1 point lower components then Alban and Artem.

There are men who can score 35 point for elements with 2axel (Adam Rippon). There is man who score 170 points for skating with mistakes at 4 Continents...
As well as points at 4C were too big....so points at Winter Universiade were too low for some skaters.

No Canadian figure skaters are going...I guess SC is not subsidizing this event?:frown2:

For whatever reason, SC rarely sends its senior-level athletes to international competitions outside of the GP circuit, 4CC and Worlds. Besides Nebelhorn, what other event have we seen Canadian skaters on a regular basis?

I also think he is the first one to land two Quads in one freeskate this season.

Actually, Kevin Reynolds landed two clean quads in his free skate earlier this season. ;)

And I guess Gerboldt is recovered from that sinus thing she had at Euros. I think that's a PB for her.

Thanks for the protocols!

I am somehow beyond feeling sorry for Berntsson. I don't think he has had one clean program so far this season, not even a clean short program. He somehow manages to stay in the upper ranks, because of big PCS. But the judges will lose their patience at some point, they did with Verner, they will with Berntsson. I am not saying that he doesn't deserve good PCS - but he apparently stumbled on the 3A, doubled the second part of the 3-3 and fell on the Lutz, that's a lot of mistakes for 3 jumping passes.
 He fell on the Flip. As usual... He has big problem with that. It was a couple of competitions since he fell on it, but here we go again... And that LP protocol almost made me cry, at least gave me a real headache... 104 points?!? Please dig it and forget it as soon as possible... >_< This and Adrian's newly broken skate. 1 spot for the Olympics, I promise you... Why this year...?
