Here are a couple of pictures
Yay! Dan Zhang got rid of that hideous LP costume she used in the GP series. Normally I'm all for the ladies wearing pants, but it was ugly. Did she wear this for 4CC? If so, why did the skating gods not smile upon the Zhangs there?

She didn't wear the pants at 4CC either. Good question! :agree:

Ice Dance Medalists:
1. Zaretskis 177.43
2. Rubleva/Shefer 170.43
3. Beknazarova/Zuev 163.07

Very high score for Z/Z in the FD; I wonder if they benefited from not having any of the top teams at Harbin? Either that, or they finally skated mistake-free for an entire event.

Free Dance (top ten)
1 Alexandra ZARETSKI / Roman ZARETSKI ISR 88.99
2 Ekaterina RUBLEVA / Ivan SHEFER RUS 83.9
3 Kristina GORSHKOVA / Vitali BUTIKOV RUS 79.8
4 Ekaterina BOBROVA / Dmitri SOLOVIEV RUS 79.53
5 Alla BEKNAZAROVA / Vladimir ZUEV UKR 79.09
6 Carolina HERMANN / Daniel HERMANN GER 75.65
7 Zoe BLANC / Pierre-Loup BOUQUET FRA 72.47
8 Isabella PAJARDI / Stefano CARUSO ITA 71.14
9 Xintong HUANG / Xun ZHENG CHN 69.13
10 Xiaoyang YU / Chen WANG CHN 68.51

That's so great for the Zaretskis that they were able to win this competition!
I believe this is the first competition they have ever won other than Israeli Nationals - at least, it is in their senior career. It's not Euros or a GP but it's definitely a great result for them, so well done to Alexandra and Roman! I hope it'll be something to work from towards future events... so far this season has been pretty bad for them and I'd like to see them do well at Worlds.

BTW, the men's event is quite a letdown compared to the 2007 Universiade, but then that's the difference between having Ming Xu and Artem Borodulin vs. having Dai and Oda... ;)

There's a difference?? ;) But yeah, that's quite true. Plus some of the best-known skaters this year didn't have a strong showing, so that made matters even worse.

Anyone here interested in synchro?

Thanks for that, rosee! He sounds somewhat frustrated. The pics are great (especially Alban with his medal). For a second I thought I was looking at Lambiel's Poeta costume down there!

That's a pretty big lead for Kiira. I hope she'll do well in the LP, too - no crashing into the boards :).

And I guess Gerboldt is recovered from that sinus thing she had at Euros. I think that's a PB for her.

Go, Kiira!

According to her ISU bio, Gerboldt's previous PB was 48.62 (Euros). I hope she makes it through the LP without falling.

I heard that Kiira Korp totally bombed in the LP and finished 3rd overall.

Yukari Nakano won the event with Nana Takeda silver, though none of these ladies really skated very well.

Yes, she didn't do too well. Poor Kiira.

It's not a vintage competition when only one skater goes above 100 - and barely even that.

Top ten ladies
1 Yukari NAKANO JPN 154.63 4 1
2 Nana TAKEDA JPN 152.91 2 2
3 Kiira KORPI FIN 148.22 1 4
4 Elena GLEBOVA EST 146.42 3 3
5 Katarina GERBOLDT RUS 138.4 5 8
6 Gwendoline DIDIER FRA 135.52 9 5
7 Na-Young KIM KOR 132.43 12 7
8 Binshu XU CHN 129.81 11 9
9 Linnea MELLGREN SWE 125.28 22 6
10 Alexandra IEVLEVA RUS 123.93 13 11

That's a good result for Katarina Gerboldt, Gwendolyn Didier and Linnea Mellgren. I don't know if the Universiade counts towards a skater's PB but if it does, they all got PBs.

ETA: Wow. Looking at the protocol, Kiira singled her loop, her Salchow, and her axel. Her TES was 39.34! Ouch. Didier had the highest base mark of any of the ladies but the PCS killed her chances.

Yukari skated reasonably well, landing 5 Triples. That's okay. It's not like Asada or Kim landed more at last Worlds.

I am happy for her, now she can rest and then work on making the Olympic team.

Does anyone have the link(s) to videos of the Ice Dance Free Dance?
I have been looking on cctv.com and can't seem to find any videos of it. It doesn't help that I can't speak Chinese!

Can anyone help?

Thank you :)

Hi Davina, and welcome! There's not much on Youtube because few stations seem to be showing anything from the Universiade, but here's the winning FD from the Zaretskis, apparently taken from a Russian channel. Good luck with finding the others!

Thank you! I found that video but haven't managed to find any of the others. It's annoying because if the Zaretski's one is online then the others must be also! I've spent hours looking on the official broadcasting website for the games!

No, both Nakano and Takeda did better. Yukari did 2 3S and 2 3F and a 3T and Nana did 2 3T and 2 3L.
Actually, my post was correct. If you look at the protocols, you can see that Didier had a higher base value, but with the GOEs, Nakano and Takeda had a higher TES (not by much in Yukari's case). But it was the PCS that kept Gwendolyn down, her TES was pretty close to the top ladies. Since I did not watch the ladies skate, I cannot comment whether it was justified or not.

ETA: Davina, the Zaretski's FD may have been uploaded by an Israeli fan - in that case, that person may not be as interested in the other teams. You can see some ODs and CDs online. Try dailymotion, maybe there will be something there, or a google video search - that should give you links to Chinese content sharing sites.
