I wonder why he won't try ANY quads at all. Why not? I always thought they were as easy for him as triples are to most other elite skaters.

I don't know if I read that right. Was he saying that he wasn't in good shape or was he referring to Yagudin?

I think he said that about Yags. Btw, it seems like it's not the whole quote...?

I don't know why he's not going to do any quads. Maybe he feels it won't be necessary at Campbell's, or he doesn't want to stress his body any more than he absolutely has to.

Thanks for the article, Kwanisqueen81. :)

I think he means that he "outjumped" everybody except Plushenko at worlds, by winning the silver medal.

Interesting that the CoP seems to be having the effect of making skaters scale down their programs, in fear of making a mistake, rather than going for broke.

The CoP is a trip, weird, far out and more. It will work if all the judges are honest. An incomplete quad could be judged as an overrotated triple and who's to say it shouldn't be? Those +3s and -3s are certainly subjective.

(Has anyone seen a write-up on the Code of Ethics?

I hope Plush does a few quads and triple combos and see how they judge them. Timmy will do the triple combos, I presume and Michael will get a quad score but-what? if he double foot's it.

Me thinks, the Campbell's will be more interesting than I thought.

I'm curious about a double-footed quad or triple, too. Under the old system, in the short program at least if you double-footed the landing you didn't get credit for the jump and took a big deduction (is that right?).

In the short program a two-foot landing is a 0.3 deduction.

In the long program jumps "landed on two feet" are supposed to get no credit.

Jumps with an incidental touchdown of the free foot would get partial credit, but there's no specific guideline for how much (or for how to value the clean jumps either relative to each other and to non-jump elements), so it's up to the individual judge's discretion.

The new system is trying to codify how much the elements are worth and how much various errors should take off. Some of the numbers make more sense than others.

so much of this CoP is a work in progress But maybe, and I say just maybe, it will clear up how to judge an attempt and a faulty jump. I'm still not clear on Corwin"s jump. Did she attempt? or did she overrotate? We know she attempted. that is her nature. But it was called by the Caller as an overrotated lesser jump. Interesting and for me it is subjective. btw, I am not a Corwin fan, just interested in how things are judged and now how they are called. Veeeery Intereeeesting.

Interesting! From the way I understand what Tim said, he is deliberately choosing to do a no quad version of his program to get a baseline to compare with Plush. Then he will know how many triples he has to upgrade to quads to get closer to Plush in COP than he is now. It's an interesting exercise.
It's worth remembering that Tim has some interesting jump entrances as well as the quads, and I am sure he wants to see how that works out. I expect he will do triple axel/triple toe and triple flip/triple toe from this article (wonder if it's true or a psych job!)

I do NOT believe the Campbell's competition will be using the CoP.

Campbell's is a USFSA-organized fluff competition, and historically, fluffs use only 5 judges. For CoP, in order to throw out highs and lows, you need 10 judges. In addition to that you need a Technical Controller and a Judge Coordinator (both of whom are ISU judges), as well as two Tech Specialists. Then there is the technical hardware and software.

Furthermore, the USFSA website has said nothing about the use of CoP at Campbell's. Their website devoted a great deal of space to CoP commentary before, during and after the Nebelhorn. Seeing as how Campbell's features a roster of top skaters (the Nebelhorn competitors were many steps below the top), I would think if the CoP was really going to be used at Campbell's, there would be discussions and interviews with the skaters about strategy, which would help publicize the event.

Doris and eurterpe - I agree with both of you. Campbell's is a fluff competition. It is, imo, an incredible way for a competitor to put his new program to a test in front of judges and live audience. One thing, for example, could be that a skater will find out that the left sleeve in her costume is too tight. There really is a no win or no lose situation here. It's an eye opener.

Tim will skate conservatively to get the feel of the program. I strongly suspect Plush will not put it to a full test. And who knows what Michael will do.

Considering that Evgeni is injured, I think he (Plush) will go just for one quad, like he did pretty much all season. I wonder if in Campbells they use the old system (like I believe they will), will Tim go and do his quads?
