Yay, so glad an American won without a quad. Just beautiful skating. Congrats to Evan Lysacek. Can't believe that the judges gave Evan and Evgeni same marks in the artistry though.

Why do you have to post this here :disapp:

Anyways, Plushy wants another OGM to go with his three other medals, for an unprecedented 2G, 2S ;)

I can imagine 31-Plushy giving a good fight :) His fire never dies.

Oh great, well done!!!!Ok now wait , maybe, MAYBE, you need to change the colour after tonight..maybe ;)

Is it true blondes have more fun?
I guess I will never know :disapp:

Sorry for the disappointment for Plushy fans.
It is still remarkable what he did and his records and medals will never be forgotten.

And he is - and always will be - Olympic Champion. That is forever and can never be taken away.

Now will he rest up and then consider 2014? I hope so because Olympics without Plushy will be missing something.

you know the biggest frustration for me after Plushy losing it by a hair is that you wont dye your hair mullet blonde ;)

I'm so proud of Plushy. He made a comeback and arguably should've won the Olympic gold medal last night. However, it wasn't mean to be and he did win the silver which was a feat within itself considering how long he taken off from the sport.

I can't believe he's going to continue competing. As someone stated up thread his fire never dies.

Guys, I've finally had a much needed deep deep sleep after having driven all night to get home (lol, got lost in Canada literally for hours before finally making it to the border & therein a 2 hour ride to get home at last). :)

First off, I want to Thank God to see Evgeni Plushenko skate live at the Olympics.....it was truly one of the most breathtaking & humbling experiences of my lifetime.....something I will never ever forget. It makes me feel like crying from pure joy! Just thinking about it again I'm literally shaking with excitement & emotion (words can't explain it).

Magic, pure magic, that is honestly what Evgeni Plushenko is. I now consider him the greatest male skater ever to live in my lifetime, bar none. And when he does skate at Sochi, lol how could he not, and medals for a 4th time, he will have literally become the greatest male skater of all time, as right now he currently is the only male skater to have medalled 3times at an Olympics, only behind Gillis Grafstrom, whom holds the record at 4! ***Note: as an aside, another favorite skater of mine - Seattleite Apolo Anton Ohno - tied Bonnie Blair as the most decorated American Winter Olympian of all time***

Back to Evgeni & his skate. Wow, how do I describe it, therein lies the question. I just feel like crying again remembering the first time I laid eyes on him yesterday evening. I had been waiting/anticipating that big moment. And then to see him in my mind's eye standing there, so tall & regal (like a king), just patiently waiting his turn. It's a moment I will never forget for as long as I live. He came out right before Johnny finished, standing by the boards like a king with his Russian jacket on, then he was on the ice warming up. The adrenaline, my heart pumping overtime, unbelieveable. People whispering about him, most con, one or two pro (like me!). I couldn't help yelling out "GOOOOOOOOO EVGENI" amongst that rather hostile silence, I was the only one to do so in my section, along with waving the Russian flag I had bought at the entrance from a kind young man. And I would do so again & again & again. Evgeni is my favorite & I don't care who knows it! Make faces & talk about me & Evgeni, like the young Canadian lady in front of me did so (complete with making a rather crude gesture with her hand & thumb when his name was announced), I don't care. I cheered him on every second of the way.

Two things stand out the most to me ~ when he was setting up to do his 4/3 ~ the complete utter hush of the crowd, literally all holding their collective breath to see whether or not he would do it. And he did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And then his other jumps, some of which looked like he would miss, and then literally miracle of miracles, his cat feet & God given talent correcting his position in the air making him land the jumps. I swear it was magic, and the crowd acknowledged this! They too couldn't believe that he had managed to land the impossible. You should have heard the gasps, me included, lol, honestly my heart was in my mouth!

Then the long wait for the marks, everybody looking at the score board, waiting. Then this huge cry from the crowd, me confused, asking what happened? what happened? because I didn't see anything on the scoreboard. I initially thought Evgeni had won, but in hindsight knew something was amiss because the Canadians all around me jumped up & were hugging each other, congratulating one another. Finally, the scoreboard showed the scores & I realized Evgeni had lost the gold by one point, but still had won the silver, though I was disappointed for him that he didn't win the gold. At that point I was rather ambivalent, a mix of emotions, mostly I just wanted Evgeni to be happy with how he skated, no matter the scores. He did it, the scores were out of his hands. I recall the kind Canadian gentleman sitting beside me & my baby niece, asking me afterward how I felt, and I said I was happy for Evan, but a little disappointed for Evgeni, but I said it was allright, and smiled, and he smiled too because I could tell he was disappointed. I just don't know if he was disappointed for me, or for Evgeni. *wink*

Then came the medal ceremonies, and Evgeni was the talk of the crowd when he mischieviously stepped over 1st place to get to 2nd. Afterwards the congratulations by the medalists, pictures, etc. And then Evgeni throwing his bouquet to some lucky person in the crowd, looking for the exit, taking off his silver medal right before he stepped off the ice, and disappearing all by himself through that lone white corridor...

I so wanted to hug him & tell him that he did great, to commiserate with him as well. Yes, I too was rather upset with the marks at first, but as I was driving home discussing it all with my baby niece, we made a pact that if Evgeni skated in Sochi we would be there, despite our mutual fear of flying on planes. And we will be there, Evgeni, we will be. As long as you are there. :)

P.S. yes, along with the help of the kind Canadian gentleman that sat to my right, I managed to throw Evgeni my little tokens of appreciation (as well as my baby niece's to Johnny & Evan; btw my niece just loooooooooves Johnny Weir so much that she cried when he finished 6th; she's writing him a letter right now). And we both showed our patriotism & waved the American flag as well; it really was a joy to see the Americans & all the men skate so well; one for the ages. Also, I'm not exaggerating when I say those around me were shocked with what I had bought Evgeni, asking if it was allright to throw it on the ice, and I said "yes, it is perfectly wrapped, he's my favorite".

One last note, I think in hindsight Evgeni will be kicking himself for not doing a 4/3/2, or a second quad. But this will only make him stronger. He needs to sit down & completely study COP, like Evan & his team did. Every double counts, every transition, every little nuance, including a program that will pull the audience in, like he did with "Once Upon A Time in America", et al. He can do it, he just needs much deserved rest & relaxation for now, taking care of those knees, coming back again in 4 yrs. like Shen & Zhao did. If they can do it at ages 31 & 36, so can he, so can he...

:rock:GOOOOOOOOOO EVGENI!!!!

After reading the worst in mankind, full of bitterness & hate & prejudice, I thought I would share a little of the love I took last night.

I apologize for some pictures, as my hands were literally shaking, especially the ones I took of Evgeni (btw need to click on the link to see them). :) Also, I would've took more, but I had to erase a lot because my camera would only hold up to 24 pics, as initially I wanted to take pics of everything, literally, practices & ALL the skaters!

I'm so looking forward to Sochi, Russia, as I've never been there before (only in my dreams)!!!!!!!!!!! I want to see the beautiful country of the greatest male figure skater of all time, complete with the renown Hermitage Museum, Peter the Great, Romanovs, and the great Anna Pavlova.

Evgeni, as I hoped, has revolutionized mens figure skating. Now I hear talk of more men staying on longer, following in Evgeni's footsteps, competing in their late 20's & perhaps even till their 30's. Even in skating's early years, skating into ones 30's was unheard of -- only Gillis Grafstrom skated till he was 39 (in fact he won his first Olympic medal at age 27), and Ulrich Salchow won his one only Olympic medal at age 31. Too many win young & leave young. Only those whom truly love to skate stay in it for life.

Good, I hope we see each other there! :)

On an entirely different note, I was disappointed how figure skating was treated at these Olympics in terms of where it was held at & the locale. The area was plain to speak "ghetto/low class". In contrast, women's hockey was held in another part of the state on a beautiful gorgeous green campus, simply breathtaking! And even the events in downtown Vancouver were high class/rich. But figure skating, omg, the worst. The equivalent in Seattle would be callled "CD area", and anybody that knows Seattle knows the "CD area" is the worst.

First off, one couldn't park at the small Pacific Coliseum, one had to park 16 or more blocks downtown. I mean you couldn't even park on the side streets because the signs said "not allowed". And if one did manage to find a parking space without such a sign (yes, we did), one was taking one's chances. Seriously, transients/thugs/et al abounded, totally trashy low class neighborhood (nothing like downtown Vancouver or the other side of the state). Then once you managed a parking space, you had to wait to catch bus 135, with standing room only. Finally, you get dropped off 2 miles (no exaggeration here) from the coliseum. You have to walk up a hill, through an entrance, more walking down a hill, up a huge uneven flight of stairs outside, then finally you enter the coliseum, and walk to your section & seats without trying to fall down the stairs. But the worst offense was the seats -- tiny, big enough for a 5 yr. old child -- that's the truth. Of course I had been warned beforehand by a kind Canadian woman that I had sold an extra pair of tickets to (had to buy 4, but only used 2, so had to sell the extra pair). But reality was another thing entirely. My gosh, worst chairs I have ever sat in my life, knees pressed up uncomfortably to the chair in front of me, all the adults crammed into our seats like sardines. Yuck. The only saving grace was the skaters.

When I pay $3300 + $40 shipping to see an Olympic event, I E X P E C T thee very best! Plush chairs, golden arm rests, classy event. And I expect the people to dress classy, like they're going to the opera, or ballet. What I saw & felt didn't even come close. The skaters deserve better than this, as well as ourselves.

And I have to be honest, I still prefer television over live. My opinion has always been unpopular on this score, but it's the truth. Television makes it more exciting, intriguing, literally in your face. Yet, that said, seeing skating live has its pluses. :) Namely they're right in front of you, gods come to life, especially the final group, simply unbelieveable!!!!!!!!!!!!!

congratulation for all skaters!!!
PLUSHY HAS 3RD OLYMPIC MEDAL !! :D :D :D

apart of being happy with plush's medal i m pretty confused
i don't know what to think..
i would be ok if plushy lose with man with quad in his program (like Takashi, Oda, Abbott) as i said before i think hes definatelly beatable this season
but with lysacek and his program?? and he beat him in technical scores ???
hmm i m really confused, i can't accept it, olympic gold medalist with no quad! for me it is regress for this sport

in other other hand mishin with his all knowlage should preaper for him more friendly program with Cop system ( note: i hate this system, it killing this sport  :scowl:)
and what completly devasted me is that difference between first and second place was so little!

i feel sorry for joubert and verner.. it was shocking to see joubert in K&C
i feel sorry for weir he was so underscored :/

thank you plushy for all emotions it was great to see you in big competition !!!! i was so happy to see you back!! :p

Thank you Nadine for the report. Your description was great, thank you. I m glad you saw Evgeni live, I dont remember my first time now how it felt, and you reminded me.
For the people who are still upset for the result, I would propose to shut internet and go for a walk at the beach or something, it helps , I did it :)
I m afraid to read the rest of forum, I know Evgeni will be thundered with what he has said. I hope the fever passes and he calms down and sees that he gave people joy and jumps upside down with his 3rd Oly medal, . I do anyway, it is good to celebrate for something he did than be upset for something he didnt ( we need a jumping emoticon) :)

Hmmm, my big pic of Evgeni hasn't been showing up, even though everything looks the same in My Settings. So what I did was, after 7 yrs. of having the same quote underneath my avatar, I changed it in honor of Evgeni Plushenko, Greatest Male Figure Skater of All Time, unprecedented 3-time Olympic Medalist, only second to the great Gillis Grafstrom, whom holds the record with 4 of his own!

I'm not sad at all. I was initially for Evgeni, but that blew over real quickly when I realized that with him winning the silver medal, he became the second most decorated male figure skater of all time! And when he competes in Sochi & medals, he will tie Gillis Grafstrom, literally, as the Greatest Male Figure Skater of All Time.

God has granted him this huge honor. It is a humbling experience, and a joyous one as well to be picked for such an honor! I'm sure Evgeni knows this, and is appreciative. *smile*

ps: seniorita, I too have seen Evgeni skate live quite a few times, but that was when he skated with COI. This was the first time I ever saw him skate live in competition, and what better place to see him skate live in competition for the 1st time than at the Olympic Games!

Just thinking about Evgeni's knees. If he keeps jumping quads and his knees are so bad now that he said he gets weekly injections in them, how is he going to be able to go to the next Olympics? He will be 30 or 31 by then, his knees will get worse from all that quad jumping. Will he end up like Tim Goebel, the former "Quad King" who can't skate anymore????? I wonder what is in those injections that he gets now?

Plushenko totally front loaded his program (nothing new there) but it's one thing to front when you have two quads and another if you only have one. Lysacek also apparently had more jumps after the 2.00 minute mark. A better spaced jump layout is just one more thing he could have done and didn't to win the gold.

Where's the flip? I think a gold medalist without six different triples is worse than one with no quad.

His spins and footwork were not very good by any rational or objective standard. IINM his spins were reduced from Euros and his footwork was slow and heavy (as it has been all season).

Love it or hate it, CoP is about racking up points through all the scoring elements and not doing specified big tricks. Quads are basically an anomaly (like 3axs for ladies) and the great majority of skaters have a window or two that they can puill off quads in. By itself it's just one trick and not a prerequisite for being a champion.

When you look at the jumps closely, he was pretty off for Plushenko. It may thrill the crowd when a skater can save a jump gone wrong, but the judges are pretty much forced to break out the -GOE.

Had he skated to his full present potential, he would have won. For sure. But he didn't and I think in time he'll realize that and come to regret some of his behavior.

I still think his comeback is an amazing achievement and he should be proud of his silver. But I doubt if that's how his mind works.

I am sorry by now Plushenko came back.

The men's event would have been as dull as it can get without him. We would have had the same lacklustre winner we have now, just as we did at the World's last year and nobody would have cared apart from a few skating enthusiasts. On the other hand, he came back and suddenly it all became alive with a fierce contest. Great. Except for all the hate piled on Plushenko everywhere.

He doesn't need this silver medal. He really doesn't. A gold would be different but the silver is blah honestly for a man like him. Overall, with all the negativity and no matter how much I loved to see him come back, at this point, I am wishing he stayed 'retired'. The men's skating as it is doesn't deserve him, and he doesn't need all the patronizing comments like the one above. Oh well ... live and learn I guess.

Quads are basically an anomaly

...
I'll simply keep quiet on this one.

At the moment he seems so pissed off he'd probably continue until Sochi simply to make a point. If it only weren't for his knees and age.

---
Somehow, since I began watching figure skating (actually through watching Plushenko and Yagudin in Salt Lake City) I have never doubted in him. What matters to me is what he does on ice and well... he does it like no one else.

"Where there's a will, there's a way."

That quote is a personal favorite of mine. If one truly wants something bad enough, one will make it happen by sheer force of mind & determination alone. Evgeni is testament to that. He'll find a way, never doubt him, if he wants it bad enough he *will* find a way to make it happen (lol, with a little help from Lady Luck as well, which always seems to be on his side). *wink*

Sheer anger alone will be the driving force, to show everybody that he's not done yet, don't count him out. All this hate is just fuel to keep that competitive engine running. Whatever it takes, I say, I just want him back on the ice again at Sochi, his home country. The first time Russia will host an Olympics, if I'm not mistaken. How can not the greatest male figure skater of all time be there. He will be. And I hope with a program that will blow everybody out of the water, so to speak. That's what I want, a program that does him justice, in every way possible.

Until then, I wish him well, relax & enjoy life, he deserves it.
