Doris - I am a big fan of Chipeur's style. BTW, do you know that Vaughan's last name has been phoneticized into English/French from the Polish. I think the Ch in Polish is Sz. Can you figure out the last name?

Well, I once had a German teacher whose last name was Wojtkiewiscz, pronounced Voit Kev vich, if that helps. Alas, my husband's father, who was the only Polish member of the family, passed away in 1985, so I have no one to ask.

Math, Thanks for the info. I wonder if Jr. pairs bronze medallist SImon Shnapir's name (from the Russian) is similar/related?. The Polish/Russian border has wandered about a good deal over time.

I think this is a Russian Jewish name usually rendered "Snapir."
Off topic, but the name I am most curious about is "Czisny." Alissa says only that it is shortened from a "Prussian" original (OK, that narrows it down to about a dozen east-central European languages.
