I really don't want to be reminded of the nasty collision during the warm-up either.

Good one!
Anyway-I've always been for NOT putting living persons on coins, street signs, boulevards, statues etc. Cheesy Imo.
Well put.
Each time I go back and watch news footage of those two-well basically as one reporter put it they whined their way to a gold medal. I firmly think so now. jmo. But if they want to put them on a coin-whatever. Personally-I don't care.

I woulda chosen Barbara Ann Scott myself. Unlike Torvill & Dean, S & P have not done enough in the sport to warrant this. Popularity in a sport does not equal impact.
They also declined to attend the second medal ceremony-which to me at the time spoke volumes.
And this reminds me that in at least one television interview Jamie all but implied that she blamed Anton for the collision. That was the first time I really got put off by S & P and it went downhill from there.

Except to many of us (and yes, I'm Canadian), they didn't 'win'. Many of us think the Russians deserved it. Heck, I'd rather put Elvis or Brian on a coin - no they didn't win gold, but 2 silvers each is IMO more of an accomplishment than a team that was competing for less than 1 O's cycle, won 1 world title and 1 Olympic medal (yes, I say 'medal').
I got totally turned off by S/P because of all the whining and handwringing on the US TV talk shows. You couldn't turn on a talk program morning or evening without having to listen to Jamie whine about "their" gold medal (which hadn't been awarded yet). Her attitude of entitlement was a huge turnoff.
I agree with the poster who said they'd been around for only a couple of years, much less time than any of their competitors. Yet S/P expected everything to be given to them simply because they thought they deserved it.
I thought their "Love Story" was simplistic and slightly cheesy, and was very disappointed in them for repeating an old program when they could have been more adventurous and creative if they had done something along the lines of their "Tristan and Isolde". If they had to repeat something, why not "Tristan" instead of bathos.
They had only been together for about three years, however both had been on the competitive scene for quite some time. Jamie competed at the 1994 Olympics and David went to the 1995 World Championships. Jason went through a couple partners before he and Jamie teamed up (he also competed in singles). When Jamie couldn't find a parter after Jason Turner she competed in singles as well.
It was an ACCIDENT. It happens all the time and was not intentional.

I also found her annoying, but I don't remember David P being that bad. He had that line about if he hadn't wanted to risk something like the judges' decision, he "should have skied down the hill" - I thought that was kind of funny.
Agree on the merits of their Love Story program, or lack thereof. S/P should have come up with a true winning program, not skated a so-so recycled LP at Olys.
When you can't do anything to get out of the way despite having seen them? These sorts of collisions happen all the time on busy sessions all over the world. I am amzaed when there are four paris teams or five dance teams warming up and there aren't more collisions or near misses.
They happen frequently enough to remember the bad ones/ones at high profile events. I remember a really painful looking one between Hubert and Ito.
