Byelarus on the ice now:

dark blue or black with light blue decoration, coverall
blew first jump attempt
fell on second jump attempt

sitspins ok, catch-leg ordinary

popped third jump attempt

sitspins again, nothing special
flying sitspin

i looked at my text too much--must have missed his footowrk--he's doing some now--nothing special also

this guy needs to train a lot more--Urmanov is his coach

Alexandr Kazakov Byelarus 40.74 into 16th place

I think museksk8r's was objecting to the part in your previous post where you suggested that Lysacek and Joubert would be given automatic cushion over everyone else. Sure room saving is common, but why specifically to these two? And why would it be so unlikely for "Abbott and alike" to be in front of these two?? Neither Jourbert or Lysacek has been exactly dominant this season at all, esp. Lysacek, who lost to Abbott twice. And Joubert was only 4th in the LP at CoR, IIRC, and had a debatable win at Euros.

Right. I was in a hurry when I posted that and didn't give a complete answer. Now I come back but this thread has been 6 more pages longer and in the middle of the early competition.

What I mean was that Joubert and Lysacek have had a history of inflated scores by international judges. I don't believe that Abbott has had that before. Also Joubert and Lysacek have a long international reccords to prove that they are in a certain level of skating. So it's unlikely that Abbott and those new comers will be held up this time unless they really earn it. Of course, as I said, Joubert and Lysacek have to skate relatively good. Or the judges cannot help them.

Brazil up next

looks very young. samba music announced---wow. different.
hand down on first jump
fell on second jump
sitspin too high --did a clever variation, though
ah, a clean jump :)
his footwork is....different. sort of non-standard homemade looking,

he likes to spin with one leg laying almost flat to the ice, the blade on its side

the rhythym is helping his second footwork sequence--he seems more relaxed now

camel, finishing with standing spins, even a slower than standard scratch spin at the end

bright orange, pink and yellow shirt, black pants. nice smile. They showed Kurt Browning watching and smiling

Nice samba dress and choreo. The crowd really appreciates his interpretation.

Looks younger than his actual age (18)
Immature in terms of skating skills, posture, line, but has speed, can do difficult positions, and can jump.

44.51 (24.26 21.25) not bad!

He's the one in the spiffy suspenders outfit

holy cow--he did a kind of one arm push-up on the ice--not sure what that was--coverup for a fall? unsure...

this is definitely non-standard eligible skating

trouble landing his first jump
lands a combo
adds another jump
goes into footowrk --very individual style in this likes to do little jump in the air during the ftwk.
into sitspins--
more ftwk with leaping in it --i do not consider his feet especially nimble

sitspin, nice and low, then a catchfoot, then a pancake
and still more sitspins--my screen blacked out, oh well...
blacked out twice in a row--must be a lot of traffic

He looks older than a 21-year-old.
Somehow original choreo at the beginning. But his line is unpolished.

43.89 (25.64 19.25) 1 point deduction. Why? Did he actually fall?

Thanks for doing the jumps, waltzjump. I am making much-needed coffee. Tried to get some work done. Five more groups. I don't think i can keep this up. lol I need protein, messy-to eat-while-typing protein. One time, when i was too adrenalized to eat at a GPF, I made it on a big, rich, ice cream pop. Yep. lol memories.....

coffee's ready.

ETA: cloudkicker, i just looked up my last year's worlds notepad--there were 24 men allowed in the FS. I am too dog-tired to do the math, but that's your starting point for figuring his chances, i think.

ETA #2: Andrey Lutai is second in the next group. You can make the top ten, Andrey, you can do it! Just relax and go for it!

I just made some much needed fresh coffee too! Oh, it's going to be a long day, but worth it I'm sure.

Only the top 24 after the SP advance to the LP. There are still 25 men to skate and they are the higher ranked skaters in the world, and Maxim Shipov is currently in 11th place, so it's not looking too great for him right now, unfortunately.

I took a cheesecake (making) break during the last two groups. Practicing for Easter....

Silver, I could really go for a piece of your cheesecake right now. I adore cheesecake. *dreamy smile*

oh yeah, i'm gone. lol

ETA: hug for you, cloudkicker ((((((cloudkicker09)))))). I'm sorry that Maxim probably won't make the FS.

Andrej! He really could do it, he has all the goods. But he always looks like a scared rabbit out there, like a very very pretty scared rabbit. I think he could be better than Voronov, without any question - his spins are better, his skating smoother, he is prettier.

Hopefully my banner is charmed or something because the two skating couples, that are on it, are currently 1 and 2 in the pairs competition - maybe this works for the men too.
