Do the federations pick the skaters to go, or are they picked by the ISU, according to either world championships or ISU rankings?
WOW - Mao, Miki, Kozuka, Oda, Lysacek, Joubert, Pechalat/Bourzat!
It's great that the federations are taking it seriously!!
I hope Canada will send Virtue/Moir, Rochette and Chan, as well as Russia Leonova and Domnina/Shabalin.
And USA Caroline, Rachael and Weir with Belbin/Agosto or Davis/White.
Abbott is going, is on Pigs can fly.And USA Caroline, Rachael and Weir with Belbin/Agosto or Davis/White.

Yeah, Im wonderin that myself, I had hopes Meissner could make it, but I checked she'll be like some days before that even on tour with SOI. I can only hope, I really wanna check in what shape she is!!!!!

I did some math based on the placements at Worlds. Assuming the countries send their top skaters who they also sent to Worlds, USA has 55 pts, Canada has 54 pts and Japan has 53 pts. That's a pretty big assumption, but it still gives a good idea of how the countries stack up when compared to each other.
I think Japan is looking good. If Mao finishes first instead of fourth and Oda moves up a notch or two, that will put Japan into the lead (not to mention home ice advantage.)
Though I cannot accept Italy being out instead of China (lol...china dance teams? ladies? men?), I would like to watch it, but Eurosport is not likely to broadcast the Trophy.

Well, since is just for fun and I can't believe any skater would do such a thing - I just have to point out one doesn't need to fall; it's enough to just pop some jumps, or deliberately change the triples to doubles. How is this for a conspiracy theory?
The score is tied between Canada and Japan going into the last event, the men's long program. Canada holds the tie-breaker because of first-place finishes by Joannie Rochette and Virtue and Moir. The last skater -- Brian Joubert -- takes the ice with the standings (top 6) as follows.
Chan
Lysacek
Kozuka
Oda
Abbott
Chipeur
Joubert is on fire. He hits two quads and a triple Axel in combination. Then he starts to think. If Joubert wins, Canada wins $200,000 and Patrick Chan picks up a nice piece of change.
So Joubert deliberately falls on his last two jumps and Japan wins!
I think those two are lovely. I didn't get to see them at Worlds but really enjoyed their performances at Euros. They're not a top team at this point, but they're certainly not embarassing.I liked Vanessa James and Yannick Bonheur's performances at Worlds. I didn't think they were embarassing at Worlds, and with luck, they will not embarass the French team here.
