The U.S. Olympic Committee announced Tuesday that newly crowned World Champion Evan is the male Athlete of the Month for March 2009. He previously claimed the award in November 2006 after winning Cup of China.
"Wow," Evan said after learning he won. "It's such a great honor to be considered for the U.S. Olympic Committee's Athlete of the Month but to win the award again is really special for me."
Evan bested cyclist Taylor Phinney, who he also topped en route to winning the USA TODAY's Olympic Athlete of the Week last week. Third place went to speedskating's Trevor Marsicano.
For the second straight month, the female Athlete of the Month honor went to alpine skier Lindsey Vonn. Olympic silver medalist ice dancers Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto took the Team of the Month award after winning a silver at the World Championships.
