I voted for Katarina, because of the way she performed the heck out of that music.
When I first watched Katarina's performance of Carmen a few years back, I wasn't terribly impressed. But when I re-watched it recently (after experiencing countless other--mostly mediocre--Carmen programs), I appreciated it much more. Katarina really made the music her own, IMO.
Gordeeva and Grinkov---1988 Olympic short. Love it!
Katarina Witt. She was perfect for it.
I think that Witt´s Carmen was awesome, but decided to choose a newer performance: Evan in 2007 US Nationals. That was really fantastic!!!
Navka/Kostomarov, I loved the whole interpretation, Tatiana was so into it.
And then I'd go for Bestemjanova/Bukin, the exact opposite Carmen.
There is also Moiseeva & Minenkov 1980 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7LEIuIR0xc
As to B&B vs. N&K - I think N&K were closer to the Opera's spirit, whereas B&B's Carmen was closer to Mérimé's novella.
Katarina Witt.

I am just wondering if the question asked, "Which was a better Carmen between Evgeni Plushenko's version and Evan Lysacek's version?" Which one would get more votes? To me, Plushenko's version is way better than Lysacek's version.
Donald Jackson - 1962 he of course won the world championships by Landing the first triple Lutz in competition. He skated to music from Carmen and received seven 6.0 marks. It was exciting to watch. I always think of Donald Jackson's brilliant performance when I hear the music from Carmen.

I agree! Although it had some bobbles, I actually preferred Plushenko's Carmen LP to Lysacek's Carmen AND Plushenko's own 06 Olympic LP, especially at the beginning of the program when it was a fantastic, cocky, enfant terrible type of performance (I say that in the best way possible). And of course, the crazy jumps as well--the 4-3-3 and the 3A-half loop-3F. Just insane.
Granted, this was the last time I heard Carmen without being physically ill... skaters - please please please stop the madness!!! There is more than this piece of music ... :banging::banging:
