Converting YouTube to files
When vixy.net started leaving me with video without sound, someone lead me to http://www.zamzar.com , which did the job. Enjoy yourself.

I use http://keepvid.com and pick the high quality option. This gives you good quality mp4 files, which play with Windows Media Player or VLC player, or Media Classic Player (provided you have the mp4 codec).
I'll have to give zamzar a try for websites that it doesn't support, though!
