Curves or YMCA? What would you do?

My brother and his wife just joined the YMCA. I am about to join Curves but having second thoughts again. Do any of you go to either? Pros or cons? I was going to join Curves in January but then health and money issues took me back. With my brother and SIL joining the Y, I am sure I would get the needed push to stick with an exercise program.

YMCA is $264/year for a single adult.

Curves is $620/year for a member--$200 join and then $35 a month pulled out of my bank account. They did have good deals on joining back in January and February, but I was always sick with sinus or bronchitis when they were going on.

Based on those prices....I'd go w/ the Y. Plus I would think the Y has more to offer...like exercise classes and use of the pool too.

But I need to start using equipment. I walk everyday because I can't drive, and since I do it that much my body has adjusted to it, so walking doesn't make me loose weight anymore.

My body needs newer challenges to get this weight off.

A friend of mine did Curves. AFAIR (which is not much), it was not a particularly intense program. And it sounds like you want intense.

YMCA. Better programs, wider range of equipment, and facilities have running tracks, swimming pools, etc.

I agree - go to the Y. It's less expensive, you'll have variety which is key to changing things up and you've got someone to get you there.

I had an intense workout yesterday and my heart rate was up almost the entire hour. I also did weights, and boy, am I sore today.

Johar, how are you doing with your battle with your sinus or bronchitis ailments?? You seemed so sick last year...how did you recover, what was the treatment???

I still have some sinus. My treatment was more and more antibiotics. I know I need to see an allergy specialist, but I've developed some new health problems! The skin on my right foot looks like I took a cheese grater to it; I also get red itchy bumps that so far haven't responded to a large bottle of Tinactin and Lotrimin. My feet aren't sweaty or too dry, so I don't know what to do. The skin is always cracked and peeling. And the itching is sometimes severe.

Have you seen a podiatrist? (it's on your feet) or a dermatologist (it's a rash) (or gotten a pedicure, for that matter)

If you're not into seeing another doctor, or developing an appearance maintenance habit like pedicures:

Have you tried something like Bag Balm to clear up the dry skin?

Also have you tried Cortisone ointment on the red bumps? It might be psoriasis or something like that. Do you also have rashes on knees or elbows?

Since lotrimin & tinactin don't work, it's probably not fungal/yeast-related. They usually work quickly if you're treating the right problem.

My friend said it looks exactly like psoriasis, and since I also have nail fungus in 3 toes, I am probably barred from getting pedicures anywhere, even if they don't work on the nails.
