Is it just me or is the placement of Gilles/Donohue really a shocker? o__o

On paper, yes, it is. But having seen the CD videos, I think they were judged fairly. I/K absolutely deserved their big marks, they had great flow, speed and interpreted it perfectly. They also had lovely lines, good basics and toe point (her, in particular). Routhier/Saucke-Lacelle did a competent job, and skated pretty close together. I thought while they had decent speed, Gilles/Donohue were really stiff and her expresison was very forced. Their leg line was also mismatched in a few places. I thought the Italians were better.

If you look at the scores from Lake Placid, they had good results, but the scores themeselves were not spectacular.

haha...umm,...where could one find the videos of the CD? I've been looking but I can't find any of Ilinykh/Katsalapov, or Gilles/Donohue.

From what I understand, there was a problem with the start values for some of the footwork sequences. It was discovered right before the FD draw and this resulted in revised scores for the OD and overall placements. There were a few teams affected by this.

By the protocols, it looks like they had a mistake in the twizzles and their start value was lower than all the teams in the top 5 except for Alessandrini/Vaturi.

Team USA poised for medal sweep in Budapest

Right, moving on...

But seriously, they didn't even mention Shelepen in their preview. It's not so difficult to find out who Polina Shelepen is. You can type it into youtube, there have been videos of her landing all Triples, having good speed and halfway decent spins during the past year, or even the past two years.

But, moving on here...

Overall, a great start into the season. Dornbush landed a 3A , Shelepen skated the lights out with 7 Triples and reports are, that the Russian ice-dance team that won, is just amazing.

ITA that the IN article was so dumb, insulting and poorly investigated. No mention of Shelepen, who's gotten a lot of hype, and can land all the triples and has difficult combos - which is reason enough to consider her a threat in the JGP. No mention of Ilinykh/Katsalapov, which if you look at the results of Russian Junior Nationals (not too much research for a website previewing the event), they beat a strong team that has medaled in the JGP for the past two years (Monko/Khaliavin). Shouldn't that warrant a mention? I thought that ice-dance.com's article (though focusing only on ice dance) was done much better.

Moving on, I really enjoyed Grant Hochstein's SP.
