I'm a Kidney Transplant Recipient as some of you know and my doctors, both Family and Transplant, have advised me to not have it. They're both concerned about it due to just how fast it was brought out and if the proper proceedures were in place to make sure it really is okay.

Plus my Kidney Specialist is about ready to strangle various people in the Media. He told me they're not helping the situation and are instead making things worse by not reporting everything. Like how it was only two people and not the entire wing of Mount Sinai in Toronto who had it last week for starters.

Now, if I felt safer having it, they'd give it to me, but they're not reccomending it. I've never gotten the regular flu shot either and on their reccomendation as well. In fact, my Kidney Specialist believes that the problem w/lower immune response to the flu is due to so many getting the shots, not getting the flu and then not having that build up of natural Antibodies happen.

And this is a guy that's usually very gung ho about stuff like this. I was shocked the first time I asked him about the regular Flu Shot and got that reply.

Everything that's going on though is not easing the Parents fears of me going to Skate Canada though. Of course I'm taking this thing seriously, but at the same time, I'm not going to hide away either. I've got my alcohol sanitizer, I always wash my hands...So I'm not going into this ignorant, but I'm not stopping living my life either.

Skaters and Swine Flu

Maybe for us oldies it is not as big a deal...
But it certainly makes sense for the athletes. Especially the younger ones. They all travel so much and it would be such a shame if they couldn't compete because of the swine flu.
I'd like to get vaccinated, but I don't know if I'll be able to. From what I've heard/read, toddlers and young kids with health conditions get first dibs.

Saw on Alex Shibutani's twitter http://twitter.com/AlexShibutani the other day that he and Maia got vaccinated. Good for them. I wonder if USFS is demanding/requesting that skaters get vaccinated? USFS makes a huge investment in these skaters so they probably want them healthy more than anyone.

I've had H1N1 for the past ten days. My fever has finally broken and if it stays down for 24 hours, I will be attending Skate Canada as planned. If it goes back up, I'll have to withdraw.

For the past 10 days I've basically been on the couch or in bed or in a reclined position at my computer just to break the boredom and communicate with the outside world.

Get the vaccine!

My advice to everyone - get the vaccine! If you don't, well - make sure you have at least a week of sick days from work - you just may need them! I've been down with that thing for several days now, and it's awful (H1N1 vaccine wasn't available when I was getting my seasonal flu shot, then I was too busy, and then everyone was out of it); the pediatrician tells us they've never seen a flu spread that fast. One of the problems with the H1N1 is that it attacks the body heavily at the lung level right away. This means the body is so overwhelmed it cannot respond properly to it. So even if you're in the "never gotten the flu" category - please consider getting it.
read in Reader's Digest (so it must be true) that you should wait over a week before getting a second 'booster shot' otherwise they tend to cancel out
H1N1 booster isn't available yet. It won't be released until more people get the vaccine itselef.:eek:hwell:

I was supposed to have the Swine Flu shot today, but my Dr. cancelled as they ran out and also are still restricted to only high risk groups. Oh well, hope I don't get sick...
