no, it was just a friday - end of week joke...
What's jokes?![]()
Oda : loved his program, more so with his step sequences than his jumps. I hate his costume reminded me of KVDP’s skeleton costume. His jumps were not as smooth as usual but a very clean skate.
Voronov: great jumps, and the landing of all the jumps were secure. I am sure he got +goe for them. I can’t talk about anything else because with Russian tv channel strangely my speaker either not work or even if it works it only works on one of them.
LP could be trouble for Voronov since he can’t execute triple lutz (he only does doubles) and he gets wrong edge calls on his flip.
Lysacek: Jumped looked smooth and secure. But, he step sequence was sort of funny; with feather round his wrist, and those pencil thin arms flapping (he sort of looked like a scare crow – A pretty one though) was a sight. You have to give him credit for trying, but I would never accuse Lysacek of being artistic, but he effectively works the system and score points. I hate the music he used as well, doesn’t suit him.
It's not a question of needing it, though I respectfully disagree he's a shoe-in without it. The question was WOULD he do it as he intimated he would - I presume because he feels he WILL need it by the Olympics. The goal is not being the big winner during the Grand Prix but stepping to the top of the podium in Vancouver. Kind of late to try it for the first time in the season there. So my question/comment still stands. Will he or won't he?

I didn't find Evan's costume distracting at all, but rather sleek, understated and, though somewhat of a departure for him, spot on for the program.
If you feel that way about his, I wonder how you felt about Oda's. Now THERE's distracting!
Different strokes for different folks.
Oda is the last to skate tomorrow, he'll know Evan Lysacek's score before taking the ice (btw, do you expect a quad from Evan?). So I think, Nobunari and his coach will adjust their plan accordingly, during Voronov's skate. Sergei will attempt a quad or two for sure, because in the absence of a 3Lz and with an 'e' call on his flip he doesn't have much choice.
If both Evan's 3 axels are ratified, and he receives world champion's PCS, it's one thing. If not, Nobunari might go for a different option. Oda will still have another two occasions to try a quad/ quad-triple-(-triple/ double?) combination: GPF and Japan Nationals, before the Olympics.
So this is my best try.
It barely got Evan higher PCs than Oda in the short program, and I don't consider Oda's short program a masterpiece of a program. Oda also got higher SS scores than Evan, as well he always should considering he's got better basics. (Oda that is)
Oda's long program is a masterpiece, and if he skates like he did TEB, the judges won't care who is world champion, Evan will have to skate very well with a program as good as Nobu's, if he wants to beat him.
Evan is world champion yes, but part of that is due to others mistakes. If other people who are better than him start stepping it up and getting better programs, they will likely start moving past him.
I don't think I have ever seen one of my favorite skaters saddled with such hideous hair, music and costume as Nobu in this SP. Merciful skate gods, release him, and quickly.
(The first melody of the music sounded like Dido's lament (Purcell) - "When I am [dead and] laid in earth...." NOT an auspicious connotation.)
