Starting Order
Warm-Up Group 1
1 Grant HOCHSTEIN USA
2 Richard DORNBUSH USA
3 Stanislav KOVALEV RUS
4 Kento NAKAMURA JPN

Warm-Up Group 2
5 Artur GACHINSKI RUS
6 Nan SONG CHN
7 Ross MINER USA
8 Yuzuru HANYU JPN

Fun fact: Yuzuru Hanyu, the top qualifier, turns 15 next week and is the youngest skater in this field by more than a year. If I'm not mistaken, he's one of only three skaters to score over 200 as a junior (the other two being Adam Rippon and Michal Brezina). I think Hanyu is wonderful and hope he skates really well on home ice... but good luck to everyone, of course :)

I know I'm jumping the gun but would Nan Song be China's first man to win a singles JGPF? Way to go in the SP!

(Is Nan his first name?)

I'm very very excited to see Yuzuru here!! He'sgot the beginnings of a great "total package" in my opinion. Great jumps, great spins, great artistry :) I also can't wait to see Ross Miner--he's a great performer.

I believe Nan is the first name. I know him as Song and I was very impressed with him in another competition. I would have no objection if he were to win here.

Actually he would be the third. Song Gao and Xiaodong Ma were Junior Grand Prix Champions on the 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 seasons respectively. Unfortunately nothing much happened with those two after that, although Song Gao was still competing until last season.:)

Song is his first name. His chinese name is 宋(Song)楠(Nan)

You risk confusing matters with your terminology. Song is his FAMILY name or SURNAME (姓) Yes, in Chinese tradition, family name comes first, but not in international convention. Nan is his personal name (名字)which is what we call "first name" in international convention. Only in China by the Chinese announcer speaking Chinese will you hear him announced as Song Nan--in English announcements and outside China he will be listed and announced as "Nan Song." Similar to the Korean "Kim Yu-Na" vs "Yu-Na Kim."

Whatever you want to call him, he is a fine up-and-coming skater who hopefully can move successfully into Senior level competition. And I remember seeing Song Gao soon after he moved up to seniors--he was wonderful but then seemed to backslide into mediocrity.

IMHO, the Chinese elite singles skaters would greatly benefit by some outside (non-Chinese) coaching influence, possibly even being trained mostly outside China. But don't count on the Chinese Skating Federation to allow this.

Oy, maybe you should have, I didn't dare to post here anything about the FS!

Yuzuru wasn't flawless, still great he won!:rock: The overall quility of his skating is just amazing

Hope he hasn't hurt himself on that 2nd 3A landing.

Just found Yuzuru's SP

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txbUXfu7H2s

Did he do a "double Tano" jump?
Thanks for the link - I haven't seen Yuzuru skate in competition since Junior Worlds, and he's really improved (and grown, I think); the only thing that seemed off was the speed on the spins. I love watching him skate, the quality is great and he has a wonderful style - hopefully he'll just keep getting better and better.

I wonder how much longer Yuzuru will stay junior? He's much younger than the other top juniors but I really don't see any point in keeping him at that level longer than necessary.

Astute observation bigsisjiejie that I agree with. I think the Chinese pairs teams got their big "break-out" when Shen/Zhao finally were given the chance to work with choreographers in the US like LA Miller. When they finally dropped skating to Chinese themed orchestrations that helped broadened their impact with international judges too.

I look forward at seeing the top three a jr worlds; Really enjoyed Nan Song; I hope china sends him to 4CC and Sr Worlds he is their best male skater by far.
I think Ross Miner is stiffer than Tim Goeble; he is fast and can perform but I swear he is wearing a body brace the way he moves. Dornbush has lots of potential but doesn't not have consistancy; I hope he gets it together; Hanyu reminds me of yu-na kim ;

Haven't seen any junior man's skating yet, but saw the medal ceremony. Song Nan is so handsome! easily the best looking asian male skater and I bet he could challenge many movie TV stars in that department.

The Japanese boy was just so adorable:) He looks like 10 years old.

I don't know who he reminds me of, but definitely not Yu-Na.

His 3A is absolutely huge, I suspect that's why it's hard for him to control. For a 14yr old, he's amazing.
