I am sure they can. In an interview Alex talked about how they had increased the difficulty level of the lift in their free dance--so it will be interesting to see!
They were the clear crowd favorites
Great job to all competitors for making such a close competition

If you watch carefully in the footage, you can see Scott and Charlie sitting together at the end of the rink right after the Shibutani's finish their program cheering their rinkmates on- it was very fun to see. It looks like Meryl's in their too along with some other members of the US team.

I  the Shibutanis- they have such clean and precise body positions and they skate with so much ease. They don't appear to be fighting each other or the ice. Plus they really look like they're having fun. Just lovely.

I don't really care where they place; I just like watching them skate.

I love the Shibs but they seriously need to up their difficulty level even more to be on the top.

Thanks. It means 2:30am at the US east coast time.:agree:

Yep...it's gonna be another late night for me..
But it's all worth it

:love: Gosh, they put a huge smile on my face every time I see them perform. They have that rare combination of "being so utterly adorable," and "technical soundness." Their unison on twizzles and straight line sequence are amazing!

Go Shibus!

It was great that they got to perform their Japanese OD in Japan. They had the only East-Asian themed OD in the entire JGP series. The combination of the crowd being really "into" it and their crazy good unison made it an outstanding atmosphere~

Monko/Khaliavin won. Not that they aren't a great team - wonderful footwork, but IMHO, Ilinykh/Katsalapov were absolutely the class of the field tonight and deserved the win. Shibutanis are good, but that choreography is amazingly open. No holds at all.

At least I/K deservingly got the highests PCS.

I/K's basics are just to die for! They have so much speed and ice coverage with just a few crossovers.

Yes, I liked I/K today more too! They were amazing! What a wonderful performance! Congrats to russian teams! Good job!

As for Shibutanis, they were good too, but not as good as others, and russian commentator said that they lost points for one of their lifts

Congrats to Monko/Khaliavin and Ilinykh/Katsalapov!! I haven't seen the FD yet, but the judging seems fair from the papers :) I'm not familiar to M/K FD, so I'll have to wait and see.

As for the Shibutanis, it seems like their diagonal steps only got a level 2, which is pretty unusual for them. Probably due to the reports above that they didn't get enough holds, which I also find strange as they are usually hold-galore.

I'm not worried, though. Like last year, they didn't medal at JGPF even though they won and placed second at their JGP assignments. They came back with great programs at Nationals and then nearly perfectionized programs at JW.
And still, no one beat their personal best OD score, and their personal best FD was matched with M/K.

I'm very happy they medaled, and it will be exciting to see Junior Worlds!! It's going to be an interesting second half of the season :)
