Please don't put words into my mouth. I'm not fine with other skaters receiving questionable tech calls either.

I was just asking because you seem fairly adamant about this one official - who is not the first one to have made a call that was seen as "questionable". You even suggested in another thread that this specialist is not fit to be working at senior events. Becoming a tech specialist takes tonnes of work, time, effort, and knowledge.

I agree  Sigh.... I personally think this conspiracy controversy does more damage to the other skaters because if for some reason, Yuna doesn't win the gold, then a lot of people will say there's really a conspiracy going on. And hell will uproar~~~ Um as for the Japanese skaters doing bad this season? I thought Miki Ando and Suzuki actually improved a lot.

No, let's be accurate here. I think the scenario would be that if Yuna lost the gold on questionable judging grounds, it will surprise a lot of people since after all, she has been touted as the overwhelming favorite to win the gold by the media and skating pundits. If she made mistakes deserving of a low score, I doubt anyone will make a fuss.

Yes, but to some people, any call against Yuna will seem questionable, regardless.

I hope Yuna does win, because I don't want to hear the thousands of conspiracy theories that will come out if she doesn't.

I totally agree with you. Also, it's unlikely that Yuna will make major mistakes. Sorry if I was not clear enough, but the scenario I am referring to is if Yuna skates well but a Japanese skater also skates well, yet the Japanese skater wins, then the likely outcome will definitey play out. Seriously, the main point Philip Hersh is trying to get at is that the Japanese skating federation and ISU may be having backdoor deals. That is at the core of his conspiracy theory, so it would not be surprising if Yuna's fans lash at the Japanese skaters if they win the event for whatever reason.

LOL! Let's get the facts straight. Not even considering whether or not UR call was deserving under the rules, the judging was questionable because no other contender received DG by the same lady for a jump with equal/similar UR as Yuna's. If you're going do apply a certain standard, you should apply it uniformly to everyone else competing, or else there is an appearance of impropriety.

very cynical but not funny at all.

stop distorting the facts. Yuna fans complained of some very specific unfairly misjudged calls.

Ugh. So Yuna is the best ladies skater out there now, but I wouldn't call it a "conspiracy" if she lost to Miki or Mao, as long as there is a rational.

If Yuna doesn't do the 3-3 or has some baubles and Mao has two great programs and does her three 3a's and Miki skates great and does her 3-3, then if Miki or Mao (or both) were to beat Yuna that would be fine.

BUT

If Yuna has a beautiful performance with her 3-3, gets bogus UR or edge calls for one/both of them, Mao ditches the second 3a in the long and does 2a-2t instead, and Miki doesn't do the 3-3 or 2a-3t, and Miki and/or Mao still beat Yuna then I will be mad. Very mad.

The two scenarios mentioned above are very different.

The main thing that I don't like about Hersh's article is the fact that he has to link the whole Cinquanta situation to the talks of alleged deals between ISU and the Japanese skating federation. Assumptions that he found on messageboards. He's just adding fuel to the fire. But just assume that this can be true. Isn't it silly on the part of the ISU to stack the decks against Yuna when her winning the gold will provide more long term benefits for the committee? :p

Agree with those... I really don't want any more scandals or bogus calls.

"It's mostly just innuendo at this point, but it's juicy, nonethless. And it begs the question: Wasn't the scoring system supposed to prevent scandalous judging behavior from ever being suspected in the first place?" --Ron Judd

 Yea, this is just the kind of juicy news that the media is waiting for. I mean what is sports without some controversy? We should thank Hersh and Judd for heating this up. :chorus:
The new scoring system doesn't prevent scandalous judging; it just makes scandalous judging a more complicated matter IMAO.

Another figure skating judging scandal in the making?

Here is another news.

Adding fuel to the fire is Cinquanta's reported insistence that Kim make a long trek from Toronto, where she trains, to South Korea for the meaningless Four Continents Competition later this month..........

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/ht...010703886_another_figure_skating_judging.html

Noo Yuna don't go! It would be stupid. We know from last year she gets super stressed competing in Korea....if she wins and is amazing everyone will go crazy and she would have won yet another competition this season and there will be more pressure on her at the Olympics, and if she makes mistakes the media won't shut up about it and it could cause her to develop a mental block over a certain jump for no reason (like her 3flip this season which is gorgeous and the best out there). So yeah, she's much better off not going.

There are also others who doesn't want to hear some people screaming 'favoritism' on yuna's victory.:rolleye: And please, DO NOT make falsified generalization.

Yuna already said she is not going to 4CC right? So why is this such a big deal? I don't think she'll change her mind...

That is a very nice article, adoreyuna. I really like Brian Orser's personality. He seems to be a humble person and he handled his huge Olympic disappoinment very well. He did not let it influence the rest of his life.

I think that Yuna is very fortunate to be coached by Brian Orser in the Olympic season. I remember him mentioning in one of his interviews that in 1988 he lost gold because he spent too much time preparing himself mentally for the Olympics and because of that he didn't really think too much about improving his technical skills. He only praticed to not let them deteriorate. The outcome was of course not good, but from his comments it seems obvious that he learned his lesson and will not let Yuna to make the same mistakes. Aditionally, the fact that he knew how to prepare himself mentally makes me think that he also knows how to prepare mentally Yuna for her Olympic Games. And the above article seems to confirm that.

"You've got to be competitive. You've got to be fierce. When she carried the torch in Hamilton, I knew it. All I had to do was look at the picture of her, and the look in her eyes told me. She gets it."

And since this is Yuna News thread I want to post some Yuna links.

Here are her pictures made for Nike:

And here are her new Nike commercials:

From all her commercials that I saw in the last few years I think I like the above ones the most.

Thanks for those links! I really like the commercials (esp the second one) and all those pictures of Yuna are gorgeous! So excited to see her skate at the Olympics!
