I accidentally came across this which seems like a new commercial. Sorry if it's already been posted. Yu Na looks so lonely and somber. Can any of the Koreans here explain the theme of the commercial? I gather the ball that Yu Na autographs has something to do with New Year's (?).

You guessed right. She's writing her new year's wish on the big white ball.

Earlier part of the video follows her recollection of the passing year, and reads her wishes for the coming year.

Yes, SamSung Electronics. Air conditioner, cell phone, tablet PC.

Samsung is probably the biggest sponsor of Yuna in terms of endorsement... and Yuna is Samsung' top model, advertising its flagship products such as tablet computers and cell phones.

On a separate note, Yuna fans should check out the latest released behind-the-scene pics from this year's Evening with Champions at Harvard. Some amazingly gorgeous pictures! http://yunakimfan.com/2011/12/21/19512/#comments

Thanks. Does the commercial come across as sad and lonely in Korean? I'm sure understanding the words can make a big difference.

    I wondered!

Then it makes complete and utter sense that Samsung has replaced Smucker's as the SOI sponsor.

I would expect to see more SOI Korea stops then! Perhaps with Yuna in them?

On a second viewing, I realize it’s in Yu-Na’s own voice. Looking at the people on the streets, she narrates her impression and thoughts of the season, maybe looking for self-appraisal of her own past year and hopes for a new year. Nothing particularly somber or lonely about it, but I can see it might look that way if one can’t understand the narration.

Her wishes for the new year? Pretty simple – getting herself a driver’s license and going on a trip by herself. (I guess kind of apt for the sponsor Hyundai)

The company has been active in sports marketing and it also has been the title sponsor for Cup of China for some years now. Yu-Na joining SOI is not unthinkable, but I guess she would have little incentive to do so when she has her own mega shows at least twice a year in the same local market.

Yu-Na in a year-end fundraising telethon, visiting pediatric cancer ward in St. Mary’s Hospital and joining the annual “Loving Fools' Sharing Fest” hosted by Catholic Church’s Seoul District:

Bigger than Hyundai, L.G., Nike or Korean Air? She's got some pretty big sponsors even now while on "break".

Just a few years ago it would be unthinkable a Korean company would be the major sponsor to the biggest US 'figure skating' show IN the US. Thanks to Yuna and her extraordinary athleticism, artistry and beauty she brought to the sport, makes her probably one of the most important figure skater in the COP era. And she did it without a strong federation or agency support.

Whatever criticism one might throw at her, she worked hard and deserves her success. She brought the money and opened new doors, to new audiences, new territories and she did it in her own way. She revitalized the sport to produce extravagant experiences, great stage ambiance and where skaters get acknowledgement as first class athletes flying all first class to skate at her shows and earn decent money doing so. These latest sponsorship on COC and SOI is just one of the perks that benefit the sport as well as her sponsors. What I am most thankful however is she's able bring back and reintroduce all the greats like Michelle Kwan, Irina, Kurt to new territories ambassadoring the sport at the world stage, which are just phenomenal accomplishments apart from being a truly exceptional skater.

Well said! Seeing those legends in her shows was great. Especially Michelle and Yu-Na skating together in 2009 was magical for me. Katia was special too. I anticipate seeing more of those greats in her shows.

Thanks. That's remarkable. I imagined a very different story line! Glad she's well and looking forward to some normalcy.
