Dear posters, I am sorry I have had to delete so many of your posts. My internet company choose today to drop my service for 10 hours. I deleted the whole thing-there was too much to try to edit, and too much that is good that preceded those posts to delete the whole thread. So I chose to delete the end of the thread.

This thread is for Yu Na News. I hope you will continue to discuss that now.

Please do not discuss gossip. Even being outraged at gossip only propagates the gossip.

Please do not attempt to avoid the cuss word censor by typing in letters and stars. Cursing is not allowed on GS because we are 'preteen' rated.

    Likewise porn stories are prohibited.

Do not use racial and ethnic slurs. . You would not like such things said of you. And using them is an infraction offense. There is no excuse for them.

If you wish to discuss politics, differences between cultures or countries, please discuss those things in the Politics forum here.

So carry on telling us all what Yu Na is doing now that she is the Olympic gold medallist.

Olympians Dominate February Athlete of the Month Award
    9 March 2010 (Source)

Olympic gold-medal winners Shaun White of the United States and Kim Yu Na of South Korea were named the United States Sports Academy’s February Athletes of the Month.

There were many multiple gold-medal winners at the Vancouver Games, but White and Yu Na, each of whom competed in only one event, dominated their only competitions like few others. Considering their ages (White is 23 and Yu Na is 19), they might be grabbing headlines for years to come.

Yu Na, the reigning world champion, had one of the best performances in the history of the sport. Her total of 228.56 points shattered her career-best and world record by 18 points to become the first South Korean to win a figure skating medal. South Korea is so enamored by her performance that it has commissioned a coin in her honor.

The runner-up in the women’s vote was United States skier Lindsey Vonn, who won a gold medal in the women’s downhill and added a bronze medal in the Super G.Athlete of the Month winners are eligible to be included in the Academy’s Athlete of the Year ballot at the end of the year.
I'm so happy Yu-na is getting international recognition for those absolutely amazing performance she put up at Vancouver :3 And I do think that Mao and Yu-na could be good friends if it wasn't for the constant rivalry the media hypes up and all the pressure on both of them. I remember reading an account of them from Worlds when they had roomed together and Yu-na's mom cooked something-kimchi for the both of them... and they had communicated w/hand gestures lols. And there's this photo:http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_lxap4y0S1a...+Mao+selka.jpg :D

Wonderful! Do you have any links to the pictures? It is often difficult for North American fans to navigate Korean or Japanese blogs/message boards, and a lot of us (me included) really appreciate the links!

That is from the GPF held in Korea. Was it 2008? Anyway, they are very cute.
And I'm pretty much sure that headless guy is Kozuka.

I think they could be really really good friends, Yuna and Mao that is. They are very similar in many ways. The same age, height, etc. I am sure they have so much respect for each others.

Does anyone know how people in Korea call each others?? For instance, In japan, people call Mao, Mao-chan. I read in a japanese newspaper that Takahashi heard Yuna calling Mao, Mao-chan during the exihibiton practice and he was a bit surprised by this. Do people call Yuna-chan Mao-chan like Japanese do??

No. Name-chan is uniquely Japanese, not something Koreans do in their own language.

Sometimes -ah or -ya gets added at the end of Korean name if you're close, but whether you add -ah or -ya depends on the final syllable of the name. For example, Yuna's mom may call her "Yuna-ya" because it'd be weird to add "-ah" at the end of Yuna. But for Kwak Min-Jung, you'll say, "Min-Jung-ah".

I hope this makes sense. I've never really thought of it one way or the other, so I may not have thought of exceptions. :-)

Wait, what about Oppa, Unni, Hyung, Noona?

I'm pretty sure I heard Min-Jung call Yuna unni and I also heard Kim Min-Seok call Yuna noona.
