The irony of this is that, Yuna's comeback is not welcomed, because people dont really wanna Yuna to win it all again (especially ISU). which is exactly because, deep in their heart they know Yuna is the best and are afraid of Yuna the most.
However, from figure skating fans' perspective, from the pure enjoyment of this sports. people really missed Yuna and wanted her to come back. Even when now she is officially retired, every one still dream about maybe she could come back some day, or do more shows.
For those people who has said bad things about Yuna's programs in 2014 quad. I bet they still watched Yuna's programs the most.
I really glad that in 2014 quad, although Yuna dont have as many outings, but every one of her program is completely new stuff, which makes her each outing even more precious. is that the exact definition of the most valuable things in this world.

as for calm down PCS, Carolina also mentioned she will return in the future, let us see what happened then. but tbh, imo, I dont count on her either, she also dont have much consistency as well. And I am not sure if she can bring new stuff when she returns, like Yuna did in 2014 quad.but I certainly hope for some artistic push-boundary work from Carolina.

Actually, for me, I am just waiting for the next generation skater (who has REALLY good tech and art ability) to grow up and save current situation of lady's figure skating, and it will be pretty soon.

world record is a number given out by ISU, why you give a jump this value this year, and suddenly a different value next year, etc. just a bunch of numbers. SITC world record or not, surely had a position in the history of figure skating, and its special position will not be changed with or without a world record.

From what I’ve heard in Korean figure fan site, infamous Dispatch yellow media had waited to reveal Yuna scandal to damage her images after Sochi. They had already planned a scenario to bash her. The reason she had failed to win a gold medal was she had been busy seeing her boyfriend. If she hadn’t done clean program, that scenario would have worked. It is so scary. Yuna fans are still talking about this. There are some people not happy about her fame and fortune.

It is amazing how she managed to miss out so many landlines without even trying... really amazing! And the funny thing is, Yuna is just being Yuna, while the rest of the world are going crazy at her expenses. A real shame if Dispatch really did intend to damage her image, terrible terrible shame just sell some papers.

Do you know Junko, Myriam, and Susan Lynch? All three techs are very well known to Korean Yuna Fans. We don’t have good opinions of three women. KSU invited Susan Lynch as a tech at Ranking competition in Korea. I know we don’t have that much power to reject her. Also, I think vice president Ms. Lee quite get along with them well. Anyways, Jinseo and other skaters not only get a very little pcs but also some skaters got attention mark or under rotation mark even though they didn’t look like that at all. I don’t know what on earth KSU is thinking about. I cannot help but thinking KSU is hostile towards Yuna.

Yuna was there to watch Korean skaters at Ranking Competition. She looked great as always.

Here are some pics of her.

Actor Kim Soo-hyun and former figure skater Kim Yuna won grand prizes at the 2015 National Brand Awards for improving Korea's brand image.

The Institute of Nation Brand Promotion chooses and awards individuals and corporations who contribute to enhancing the national image.

Kim Soo-hyun won the prize in the culture sector, and Kim Yuna won it in the sports sector.

I know all four women including KSU vice president Ms. Lee are from different countries. Does it matter? Their nationalities???
She was the one who had given Yuna her first attention mark to her triple flip I heard.

You are right it doesn't . Merely an observation

It's interesting though because Australia seems to have lots of high ranking judges but not that many high ranking skaters

I think judges especially from small and weak feds are likely to follow what the authorities want them to do. However, Australian skaters have more bright future than other non English speaking countries though. They are likely to have their voices in ISU I guess. More promising skaters are coming from Australia now.

[English isn't my main language, I'm sorry for rambling... I just had some Yuna feelings after Christmas Day.]

It's Nationals season once again (though not yet in Korea) but I was just rewatching Yuna's lovely short program from her final Nationals. I was reading about Send in the Clowns for a small project a few days ago and read a quote by Stephen Sondheim, the writer of the song:

"'Send in the Clowns' was never meant to be a soaring ballad; it's a song of regret. And it's a song of a lady who is too upset and too angry to speak– meaning to sing for a very long time. She is furious, but she doesn't want to make a scene in front of Fredrik because she recognizes that his obsession with his 18-year-old wife is unbreakable. So she gives up; so it's a song of regret and anger, and therefore fits in with short-breathed phrases." (from a video interview of Sondheim, broadcast live from the New York City Opera)

I think that along with Adios Nonino, it's a very meaningful goodbye from her. Perhaps it has been discussed many times before, but it's always interesting for me to know about the meanings behind the music each skater chooses. I interpret it as something like "Loved too early and reciprocated too late," regretful because of what could've been and anger because of what should've been, so send in the clowns to distract from all that is falling apart. Considering the mood of regretfulness, I do wonder what Yuna regrets in her career. Knowing the meaning of the song she chose, her short feels even more poignant and touching.

I always thought her Les Miserables was her greatest program post-Vancouver and that it should've had the honor of being skated as her final Olympic performance with all it's power and spirit, but I've grown to appreciate her two final programs too. SITC was her regrets, Adios Nonino was her proper goodbye. It was written by Piazolla after his father's death and he was quoted as saying:

"When I got back to New York a few days later, I asked to be alone in a room in the apartment, and in less than an hour I wrote Adiós Noni[n]o. And then I cried as I had few times before in my life…In that piece I left all the memories I had of my dad." (http://www.tangomusicology.com/wordpres/adios-nonino-an-introduction/)

It was as if Yuna left all of her memories of her career in that final skate in Sochi, much like how Piazolla left his memories of his father in his Adios Nonino. I still think Les Miserables was Yuna's greatest program post-Vancouver, but it wouldn't have carried as much meaning as Adios Nonino and/or Send in the Clowns.

Did that make sense? I'm sorry, it's late and midnight + rewatching my faves always gives me feelings... :sad21: I don't know if that made sense to anyone else but me, but I hope y'all understood what I mean, haha. Now I must :bed:.

Beautiful post paperhearts! And yet some people still call her Sochi performances "stonefaced" without understanding meaning of the pieces, time and time again Yuna showed everyone how great she is at interprering whatever music she is skating to, she is a treasure, i hope we will see her on ice soon, who know she might be at Gala at Youth Olympics! (if they will have one haha)

Thank you matmuh! Agreed regarding the criticisms she got being called "stonefaced", her performances go beyond that. Well, different strokes for different folks, I guess. Perhaps they prefer more literal interpretations, which are okay too, but I appreciate Yuna's a touch more. Oh, how I wish she could come back at least for a show or a gala. I'd love it if she would get to be at the YOG gala, a la Miki Ando at GPF maybe? :)

Do you guys think that if Yuna continues to make ice shows in the future that she'd be open to something like a world tour of ATS? Because that would be so awesome. :))) And then she would invite skaters from the country where she's having the show (like what Taylor Swift does in her 1989 tours). :)

hey guys, does anyone remember who would have been sent to worlds 2011 if yuna didn't go? In the 'ban on Carolina Kostner' thread yuna's name was brought up and they were discussing whether it was arrogant of yuna or not that she didn't attend korean nationals that year to 'earn' her spot.
My memory is failing me, but were there actually eligible skaters from korea at that time from whom she took the spot? Somehow I think that there was none. Can anyone recall the situation from then?
;)
