Olympic Gold at US Nationals....
All of the former U.S. Olympic gold medalists in figure skating will be in Spokane for the final performance of the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, U.S. Figure Skating said today in a news release.
The gold medalists will participate in a presentation during the Smucker’s Skating Spectacular on Sunday, Jan. 24, and later will take part in a fund-raising dinner here.
The Olympic champions who are scheduled to appear are: Dick Button (1948, 52), Tenley Albright (1956), Hayes Jenkins (1956), Carol Heiss Jenkins (1960), David Jenkins (1960), Peggy Fleming (1968), Dorothy Hamill (1976), Scott Hamilton (1984), Brian Boitano (1988), Kristi Yamaguchi (1992), Tara Lipinski (1998) and Sarah Hughes (2002).
The U.S. Figure Skating Championships will begin Jan. 14 at the Spokane Arena.
Chris who wants to see MK!
That's a lot of Jenkins's's's's .
What a wonderful and inspiring idea! Hopefully it will give all the competitors and Olympic team qualifiers even more motivation. Hopefully whatever segment NBC does for this will give equal attention to all champions, especially the ones from the 40's and 50's. They are almost forgotten by the current generation.
An example of something they could show would be this.
David Jenkins' PERFECT triple axel (in practice) in 1957!!!
The man was ahead of his time considering the fact that no one landed it in competition until Vern Taylor at 1978 Worlds and not really cleanly until Orser at 81 Worlds.

i wonder why they did that--
not getting enough money
Sexy, smart and sterilized!
They did this at St. Louis in '06. They said it was the first time all the Oly gold medalists had ever been together on the same ice. (Not on skates, of course.)
they did something similar in 2006... it was awesome when they all walked out on the ice/were announced...
and they were all over the venue and hotel the entire week. It was amazing.
ETA - and had I read down to the last post I'd have seen that I am not the first to say so lol *facepalm*
Beliver in Sasha's Perfect Program
that was really nice. Amazing he could get the full rotation considering how open his position was in the air.

They just needed some modifications to air position since they often had the height already.

They walked out on a carpet runner thingy. I have pics but don't know how to put one in a post.
