One thing to remember is that the technical panel is supposed to review the takeoff of any suspected pre-rotated jumps at regular replay speed, not in slo-mo.
It could actually be that no replay slo-mo for the tech panel hurt Mao. After Mao landed her 3axel, there was a bit of a scratchy quarter rotation on the ice with snow kicking up. At a quick glance, it could look like a cheated landing. However, in slo-mo, it's clear that Mao set her blade down after a full rotation. In fact, it's the fullest rotation of her 3axel that I've ever seen her do. The bit of on-ice rotation was over-rotation, not under-rotation.

Of course, this is all moot if the downgrade was based on prerotation on the takeoff.

Nakano 3Lz was badly underotated. can't believe the tech give her full credit. I can see her milking out +GOE on the spins, but the score should have been much lower than Susuki and Ando.

Akiko>>>Yukari

I really hope she gets the marks she deserves tomorrow and gets that Olympic spot! For some reason I am not that impressed by Yukari's skating, she has a nice donut spin and is graceful but I prefer Fumie's skating to her's. And Akiko is just AMAZING

I agree. Akiko deserves that spot. Her SP was undermarked, IMO. I agree with the TS that Mao's 3A was underrotated. My question is: why wasn't her solo 2A invalidated as an element, then? Too many rules for me to keep straight...

Akiko makes skating seem fun. She's the only Japanese woman who makes me think that she enjoys skating. (Well, Murakami was fun, too.) Everyone else looks so bored or serious or focused. Even Yuna doesn't seem as free as she did last year.

Really hope the LP marks reflect the performances of the athletes and not the wishes of the JSF.

What rule is this? Do you have a link or more information on it I can read up on? If they're being strict with the prerotation, I don't see how Mao will ever have another 3axel ratified (same with Lysacek, but he seems to get away with it).
It used to be written in
"First Aid for Technical Controllers and Technical Specialists Single"
Now it's
"Technical Panel Handbook"
http://www.isu.org/vsite/vfile/page/fileurl/0,11040,4844-197593-214816-125742-0-file,00.pdf

So, I should have wriiten that the rule existed from before but given special alert this year.
It's also in the last page of ISU1557, "IV. Remarks and clarifications"
We must also refer to the former ISU1494 as well.

Yes me too! And I love Murakami she has real personality on the ice but is still sophisticated at the same time even though she's only 15. I hope she does well tomorrow and makes top 4....even if she were to place above Akiko or Yukari it wouldn't affect who goes to the Olympics anyways because she's too young. She looked very pleased with her score though, I thought it should have been higher given the scores of her competitors, guess it's just the junior PCS though.

If her PCS mark are around 29-30 ish, she will be around 65-66 range, which is good for solid SP score. Despite her 3+3, attempt, 3T+3T was only 8 points, compare to 3Lz+2T (7.2). If she can upgrade her tripe triple to 3F+3T, she should be well off to a good start for Sochi. Her triple triple was a little underroated thou, not sure it got < or not.

I saw the results page and the second toe was UR, so the base value was only 5.3 points, and her second jump was a flip not a lutz. If she could upgrade to 3f-3t and dp a 3lz as her solo jump I bet she will do very well on the GP circuit next year. She's probably do very well anyways even if she doesn't change her jumps. Excited for the free!

You know, there are nice ways to say you don't like a costume :sheesh:
I actually think it's very pretty...when I see a bunch of pink and red flowers, I don't automatically think murder.

I think that dress is PERFECT for the theme of the program. Mao looks beautiful.

If I'm not mistaken, the free skate starts in 30 minutes, right?

Oh, I'm nervous for Akiko. I hope she doesn't win, because if she does the media blitz will be crazy for her for the Olympics... but I hope she does well enough to go.

I am nervous for Nakano and Suzuki. Actually I like them equally. It would be too sad if Nakano never gets to experience the Olympic games! I feel for Suzuki as well. I wouldn't be surprised if Nakano or Suzuki wins and Mao ends up in 4th.. I don't know what the Japanese Federation would do if that happens.

Don't want to jinx my favorites, so will not watch *live* the LPs, but just wanted to say that it was a joy to watch all of them skate clean!

And I'm so glad that Mao wore what I call the "desert rose" dress, which I liked from the very beginning, and still do!

Good Luck to ALL the ladies, may your heart's desire carry you through.
