Hey guys,

Starting my first thread here. With all the talk and tension about nationals and Olympics here, I thought this would help us look at the future. :)

This news clip introduces some of the younger Korean skaters. Namely, two of the female skaters here, in my opinion, have immense futures ahead of them. The first of the two (Kim Hae-Jin) learned her first triple (triple toe) last season and in only 7 months, learned the rest of her triples. She's only 12.

I'm Korean, so I'm naturally excited about the number of skaters who are starting to be noticed from Korea, but I don't want to make this a thread just about Korean skaters.

I'm not good with novice/junior skaters, so are there any other skaters from other countries we need to really watch out for?

Beata Papp

The new Finnish junior champion, last year posted the highest score in Novice ladies in Canada where she lives and trains. She's not yet quite at the level of some Russian juniors but her progress is fast and she lands triple-triples already. :)

The clip is the FS of the skate over a year ago, the one where she set the new Canadian record.

Just posted this above, but I expect great things from Kanako Murukami. She has great speed on the ice and wonderfully centered spins. Unlike other Junior jumping beans, she is very well-rounded. Even if a growth spurt hurts her jumps, which is so common with young skaters as they age, she will still have her strong basic skating skills to fall back on and keep her ahead of the pack that winds up being lost without their jumps.

He's not as young as some of the skaters mentioned in this thread, and is better known than most of them, but I'll go with Yuzuru Hanyu, as usual :).

Yuzuru Hanyu is the two-time Japanese junior national champion and finished 6th at senior Nats, despite making several mistakes. He was very strong in his two JGPs this season and was the top qualifier for the JGPF, which he won (here's his FS). He has a 3A (solo and in combination), good spins and wonderful presentation. His PB is already over 200, which is quite high for a junior skater.

Hanyu turned fifteen last month. The improvement in his skating between last season and this year is obvious and if he continues this way, I think he could potentially go very far.

Shoma Uno from Japan...
His skating pretty much speaks for itself. He's about 10 years old (I think?) and he's landing clean triples and double axels.
He's a novice skater (feel free to correct me on this if I'm wrong), and boy, has this kid got something special!
Not to mention that he has a nice layback spin and some really musical steps. I was completely in awe when his program was over

Among young dance teams, here are 4 of my favorites, all of whom were at the JGPF this year:

Agnes Zawadski- a junior but she had huge scores at regionals and sectionals. Too bad she missed the ISU cutoff by 31 days

Anna Ovcharova from Russia, she was 4th at the JGPF and 5th at Russian senior nationals. She is only 13 but has big jumps and great musicality and speed. She also looks a little more mature than most of the other jumping beans her age which may mean she's through most of her growth already (listed as 5'3" now).

... and, she has only 13 years ;)

She is very talented and extremely cute! First thing I would work on would be her arms. I also would like to see her skate to some more "age suitable" music. It worries me a bit that Mishin is her coach. He seems to be very intimidating and rough (kind of like Bela Karolyi in gymnastics). Like when he kind of jolts her into a sort of hug at 6:54! I am glad to see she has female coaches as well who were offering her a lot of positivity and comfort in the Kiss and Cry. :agree: Looking forward to seeing her develop!

I LOVE them and this program! What an uplifting, beautiful, and joyful performance! They live and breath that music  Some awesome and innovative positions too - I especially loved the one at 58 seconds. I can't wait to watch this program at Nationals this weekend! I hope they work on increasing their speed. Canada is going to be in good shape with these two and C/P - they are coached by the same people too.

It's very unlikely that she is finished growing - girls typically keep growing and changing until around 16-18 years of age.

I vote for Gracie Gold - Novice Lady in the US - 14. She went from 1-2 triples to all except Axel in a really short period of time, got the look, speed, spins....

You are right, I didn't mean finished growing though more that she might not gain a lot of weight as many Russian women are very thin and she has very long legs, so would most likely get taller, not heavy.

Kiri Baga (reigning US Novice champ) and Kate Charbonneau (reigning CDN JR champ) are great all-round skaters. They are completely different skaters, but each seem to continue to grow in all areas of their skating, not just in certain elements. Must be the good coaching!

Agree with this 3, they are also my fave junior teams right now. :agree: Although I'm still kinda dissapointed that Riazanova & Guerreiro broke up, they were a better pairing that Pushkash & Guerreiro IMO.
