this must be why I see -2.00 GOE's on a fallen jump, when I thought I should be seeing -3.00
If you fall but do it with style, can you make up a bit on that -3.00?![]()

Interesting. Mirai got an attention mark. She did flutz there. But it is not that they were judged differently because of her reputation for being a flutzer any more than Sasha and Wagner are. Mirai does not always flutz. She has corrected her edge last or two seasons ago and and often gets away with the call.
Actually, that makes a certain amount of sense, if you think about it. If you have a proper take-off edge from connecting steps, exceptional height, good air position and complete rotation, but then can't quite hold the landing -- well, that's not as bad as being crummy in all those other areas before the splat.
Ashley Wagner got one -2 in the short program (along with eight -3;s) for her fall on the Lutz. Scott Hamilton commented that the reason she fell was that her jump was too high. When she reached down for the ice after the rotations, it wasn't there. Ashley confirmed this in her interview, saying hat the adnenaline was pumping a little too much on that element.
USFSA judging corruption is so UGGGHHHHHLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYY!
Speaking as a Canadian fan.. Loved the US Nationals in all events. All the athletes were great and those who came prepared were properly rewarded. Good on you US of A. This from a ardent Canadian figure skating fan.![]()
Mirai should have won, Rachael 3rd in the FS and Ashley or Rachael 2nd or 3rd overall. It's nice that Flatt finally won her title though - being a silver medalist for 3 years in a row would just kind of be like, "Oh, you'll just never be quite good enough to win". In reality though, I think she should have won her title last year, and Mirai have won again this year. Maybe if Alissa hadn't been defending champ here she would have done better. But who knows. Also, Sasha was boring, but she was scored fairly. Her SP was MUCH better than her FS.
