for me, the most enjoyable program was mirai's. She was so enjoyable and so happy... And so much more artistry than flatt. I have nothing against flatt but i enjoyed mirai's program a lot more. I would like to see super slo-mo of both flatt's and mirai's jumps.

Is the overall consensus that Rachael is retiring after this year and going to college?

She's a solid competitor but her skating just does not move me. It's a good thing that's she's pursuing higher education and science because I could not see her on the SOI tour at all....

I can't believe that Mirai didn't win. I still can't see the URs but then again, I'm not putting it in slow motion. To me, Rachel is just bleh. She's ok but doesn't make me feel any emotions..

Mirai will go to Vancouver but I think she deserved the title.

Her skating is so much more refined and elegant than Rachael's.

But maybe my grandpa eyes are too old see all of these urs.
I also missed all the high pcs Rachael scored too ;)

Wow, what an event

Rachel finally gets her National title after two years of silver  and Nagasu did an amazing job to grab silver and likely the second Vancouver spot. A big "take that" to everyone who told her to wait until Sochi. I knew she could pull it off if she just held it together. USFS- SEND Rachel and Mirai. They deserve it 110%

Ashley- Great freeskate but the short program deficit proved to be too much to overcome. A bit sad for her but at the same time, she's only 18 (19?). She should be proud of herself for fighting back and not be TOO down on herself for missing the team.

Sasha- You know, I have to hand it to her. I was doubtful she'd even show up, let alone skate both phases of the competition and she proved me wrong. She showed up and really gave it her best effort. Of course, the absence from competition really showed in her freeskate performance, and in this National field you cannot make those mistakes and hope to win or get to Olys. And the way she handled it at the end with Andrea Joyce- I have new respect for her now.

Hughes- she fought for it. A proud moment for her, I hope.

Gao- wow. What can I say? She could be the future IF her jumps hold. I see a lot of potential in her.

Zhang and Czisny... too bad :( a very forgettable competition for both of them, but especially for Czisny, being the defending champion.

That's about it for now...off to edit footage...

:agree: I couldn't have said it better..

and R.D., my hat's off to you for being such a great sport. I've followed your posts and know how skeptical you were about Sasha, so :bow:

Olympics is the brass ring everybody wants to grab, but I'm more concerned about the committee's Worlds Selections. Send the right 2 people, and we have a shot at 3 spots for next year. Send the wrong 2, and we'll be singing this same tune next year and lamenting our 2-lady limit.

Mirai, God love her, for whatever reason just can't get rid of those DG calls from judges--and now US judges are getting as tough on her as the intl judges have been. I would expect whether she goes to Olympics or Worlds or both, the judges WILL find fault with her rotations for the rest of this season. Whether it's deserved or not is another issue, but they've tapped her as a habitual UR'er and that's hard to shake off in a short time period.

I'd tend to be consistent and send top 2 finishers to Olympics (Flatt and Nagasu), but send the most reliable skaters (per the judges eyes) to Worlds (Flatt and Wagner).

Anyone think NBC didn't show much K&C slow motion on purpose?? Mirai's jumps were better than they've ever been, I really can't understand 3 downgrades.. I think she should have won. Rachael's skating is just so sloppy and blehh, not to mention that awful second spin with the attempted I-spin positions.. There's no way she beat Mirai by almost 20 points.

Pretty much. I can buy that Rachel won. The camera work wasn't great and so there's no way for the public to really verify downgrades but even so, such a staggering point differential is ridiculous. Rachel does not now nor will she ever wipe the floor with Mirai that badly.

I hope Mirai gets to go to the Olympics!! I just love her skating!

I am irritated but not by you. Am irritated Mirai did not win

So am I. But Dick Button said Mirai had URs. I guess. .Still think she was utterly superior to Rachael in every other respect. But glad Mirai is going to the Olympics. (Yes, I would be shocked it it wasn't Mirai and Rachael. No matter what everyone says about Ashley, making it to the Grand Prix is simply not a good enough reason to give her favoritism. It's not like she's world champion or even a GP champion.)

I think this event definitely shows that CoP is confusing and does not always yield fairer results! Under 6.0, Flatt would not have won over Mirai!

BTW, I was as shocked as everyone else when I saw that Mirai's total was 12 points less than Rachel's. Really did not see underotations and thought Mirai's performance and choreography was better than Rachel's. Mirai's free skate was better than Rachel's IMO.

I'm not so much annoyed with Nagasu's score necessarily. I mean, the coverage didn't really show us her blades so they very well may have been UR'd and it'd be of disservice for the US judges to not let her know. But seriously. Rachael's spins? And choreo? And spirals? And just...everything in that program minus the jumps. It was just not nearly as good and yet somehow it's 20 points better....

Under 6.0 Flatt would not have beaten Ashley either.
I have new respect for Ashley and thought she skated great tonight. Much better than Rachael

I commend you all for being very diplomatic. Personally, I am pretty pissed off...what, may I ask, constituted the TES and PCS scores??? Clearly, the Flatts either paid the judges or roofied their water bottles-- hey, they're chemical biologists, it could happen. Even if she was still 'better' she was not 20 points better!

I was a bit surprised at Rachel's high score...but I was even more surprised that Nagasu didn't beat her- and then the commentators said she had three downgrades. Oh well- what's clear is that they're the top two and they should be the Oly Team.

Because it's primetime network TV. It's like how American Idol airs three hours later in Washington state than it does in New York. Same idea.

Guys, Flatt's performance was 12 points better, not 20. Slight difference.

janetfan, the water comes from a lovely glacier. But it's a 6.0 glacier, and you know how unclear the impurities in it are. I plan on switching soon.
