Does Miki have another LP costume? I feel like it's been different for every competition this season....

I was looking at Yahoo just know on top Olympic searches and saw Tessa on the Top 3 (behind Ovechkin and Bode Miller) and saw what's she's wearing for the FD.

It's her best FD costume yet. And a very daring choice on the decolletage, considering the crazy rotational lifts they do. I don't see how her jubblies are going to stay in. As much as I look forward to that malfunction, the point deduction may cost them the gold so I'm a bit conflicted.

That's what double sided tape is for!

I'm kind of hoping Yuna would change her SP costume - I just don't like that off-shoulder cut. At all.
Plus, she showcased this piece of gorgeousness in an ad recently. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7d80pEhqIo
I like black feathers. Except when they're on Evan Lysacek.

I absolutely adore Yuna's LP costume, though. Blue and silver, so lovely.

Other costumes of Yuna's that I hope she'll wear for gala (which I heard she changed):

Well, I liked all Tessa's dresses this season so far. This one is beautiful but kind of very simple. I always prefered the one she wore at TEB. Plus not sure I understand why her dress and Scott's shirt are so dismatched. Is it supposed be like that in color or they did not even think about it? And tell me if I'm mistaken but Scott has been wearing this shirt all season..hm. I always love how they look though so no complains.
I pray for Meryl and Charlie to change their FR costumes! Will they? Cause it just strikes me that Tessa had so many outfits and Meryl and Charlie just had one for the whole season....Sad.. Although I loved their costumes too!

I REALLY hope this is not the actual dress she will wear for what every could well be their gold-medal winning freeskate. I agree with Charlotte Elizabeth that Scott is still wearing the ochre colored shirt that matched Tessa's last dress. Her dress here looks cheap and the top just looks to big on her. I didn't love the cut of her dresses before, but they were a lot more elegant and gold-medal worthy than this.

First of all, DesertRoad, thank you for making me laugh; I enjoyed so much your euphemisms for the mammary glands lol. Still cracking up over "jubblies". Love it. I have not seen such colorful euphemisms since a selection from Sir Richard Burton's translation of The Arabian Nights. (It was a gift ;) ).

Now to the costumes. For those who have decried the bright colors that Khokhlova and Novitskiy have brought to their "Firebird" presentation, I offer an URL which gives the story of the Firebird. There is one in wiki, of course, which is somewhat enlightening, but my favorite is this one:

http://www.surlalunefairytales.com/firebird/index.html

"...every night there came flying into the garden a bird that shone like the moon, whose feathers were gold and its eyes like crystal"

"...and the feather shone so that the whole place was bright with it. The Tsar could not sufficiently admire it, for when it was brought into a darkened room it gleamed as if a hundred candles had been lighted."

A ballet was made based on this Russian fairy tale, with music by Stravinskiy, premiering in Diaghilev's Ballets Russes in Paris in 1910. The costume design for the Firebird by Leon Bakst is shown here:

http://www.tigtail.org/TIG/S_View/T.../M/bakst_loiseau-de-feu_the-firebird.1910.jpg

I believe the costume is meant to convey the extreme brightness of the bird, as described in the fairy tale about it. The one thing the costume of the Firebird itself should not be, is dark. I do not find the K&N costume to be erroneous; I rather find Evan's Firebird costume to be utterly in error. It was somewhat feathered, so I took it to be supposedly the Firebird. A black Firebird? Preposterous!

By the way, I used to like some Vera Wang designs that were not for skating, but some of the designs she made for Michelle Kwan caused Kwan to have to keep tugging at the straps, which simply would not stay in place. I do not care for Vera Wang's skating designs.

Here is a large picture of Bakst's Firebird costume design (click on the picture to enlarge it):

Lol, looking at the pics is funny, as well as reading the comments (thanks for posting EM Swift's take on it all, lol).

Too bad pics & video don't quite bring to the table what it's like to see the costumes in person/live/first hand because in person they are *dazzling*. I'll never forget Brezina's sparkly costume nor Johnny Weir's (my fav that night; he honestly looked like a movie star) nor Evgeni's million stars, ahhh. :)

It's a website that usually snarks on celebrity costumes but they love figure skating and have commented on the ice dance costumes. It had me laughing quite a bit.

Honestly, I just want her to save this costume and eventually recycle it for use in a routine called, "BRITNEY: THE CHEETO YEARS."
(the Kerrs OD)
YES. Heather pointed out to me last night that this routine appears to be about Dumbledore's phoenix, Fawkes, and the wacky adventures he has with one of the more disaffected members of KIIS. I'd pay money to see that one live, folks.
Khoklova/Novitski's Firebird.

 I don't really think it's fair to use Bakst ( who can 't object ) to justify Khoklova's ridiculous costume. It's a show costume..totally over the top for an Olympic competition. It's still unnecessarily naked, though it was even more so for Euro's.

Speaking of Firebird, just compare Evan's costume to Novitski's..Evan's is a much more refined and elegant take on what appears to be the same character , either the evil sorcerer Koschei , or one of his minions. I actually thought his costume and choreography a good representation of the character , but obviously, it was too obscure for everyone to get it.

I also thought his FP costume ( Snakes on a Costume!) was an intelligent and restrained take on Scherezade..The Sultan's Vizier had been planting seeds of doubt in his mind about Zubaydah for some time ( like Iago does with Othello). Then ,too, she actually was fooling around, so he might feel he'd been nurturing a viper..All pretty snaky, if you ask me.

It's a risk the choreographer takes, but I'd rather see something done from a slightly different , but well thought out point of view than yet another gladiator , drunken pirate, etc. And I never object to just seeing a good rousing skate to a good rousing piece of music in a simple generic costume , story be damned.

One of my worsts for this year has to be Van Der Perren's skeleton which had absolutely nothing to do with the music ,but maybe marginally to do with the way it was used in Walt Disney's Fantasia..help us, costume Gods !

Had to come back after seeing the photos of Miki's costume from today's practice...better than the previous ones ( except for the first, it was actually not bad.).. They've done a great job of making much too much look like too little.

Ladies

Hands down to Caro's LP costume. She always has beautiful, sophisticated ones and this is among the very best and great match to her music.

My mom was saying Miki's LP costume was beautiful but did not suit her too well. I think that the design was good for the program. Miki looks really nice in strong colors, and I think blue, red, dark red, orange, silver, and black are among the best colors for her. But emerald green would be better for people with fairer skin; I felt that way when I saw her Torino Olympic LP costume, too. Darker green would have looked more flattering for her. I would have preferred darker colors for the makeup, too. The bright sparkling yellow and green just stood out. On the other hand, her SP costume was really beautiful. I like the design. It was a bit crowded, but still very interesting in cuts that looked beautiful as she skated. I also like that dark pink on her. She looks very nice in those colors. Very feminine and pretty. The pink makeup stood out, too, but this was not that bad.

Mao - I really liked her previous pink costume better. She looked so angelic in that. But this SP costume was perhaps better match with that music. I am kind of surprised to hear that it cost only $1,500. I don't like that LP costume very much, but I once realized that it looked very nice in a photo shoot. The cuts of the skirt are very artistic, which I didn't notice. But her best costume of all time is still Chopin Nocturne for me.

Akiko - I like her in red. The final costume for the Westside story was nice. How many of them has she had???

Yuna - I am really glad that she kept those two; can't think of anything better than them, esp. SP costume is really the best among the ones that I've ever seen from her (perhaps followed by the previous year's SP costume). She looks nice in black.

Rachael - I love that hot pink costume. It was really nice and went well with her complexion and hair color. The LP costume was also beautiful.

Mirai - SP costume is not my favorite, but nice. I think she looks really nice in bright colors like her LP costume. She always has very beautiful costumes.

Laura - Beautiful as always.

Joannie - Her SP costume is not bad. It goes well with the theme, even though I thought that it could have been simpler. I do not think that the LP costume suits her well. The costume is beautiful, the color went really well with her skin tone and hair color, but the design is not very flattering for her. Too much skin color showing for her.

Dai - His SP costume is really good. I liked his previous LP costume better than the current one.

Nobu - His SP costume is really good. His LP goes well with the program but makes him look boyish.

Taka - His SP costume is miles better than the one from several years ago. LP was just okay.

Steph - His costumes were very beautiful.

Johny - I didn't find his SP costume the best match with the music. But he looks cute and fashionable whatever he wears. I guess people who have phobia with femininity in men may detest that costume though! His LP costume was the traditional Johnny style and looked as beautiful as a fairy on ice, as always.

Yu-na had actually thought about changing her SP dress after the first grand prix event (TEB) because some of her friends made fun of it saying Yu-na looked like one of the Flintstones!
