The draw was made at Four Continents.

Perhaps not coincidentally, since the Russian Junior National Championships were skated after this draw, the CD the juniors competed at was the Westminster Waltz. I definitely admire the common sense of the Russian Federation for handling it this way.

Now that is smart planning. By holding the Junior championship at the same time as the senior championships (and hence before the 4 Continents draw), both the US and Canadian federations were unable to be sure that the CD they picked for Nationals would be competed at Jr Worlds.

And in the case of the US, it indeed will not. The Argentine Tango was chosen for the Juniors at US Nationals.

I heard her free dance costume is toned down a bit. Besides, didn't they win the free dance at JGPF? They are a lovely team.

Not really sure how I feel about I/K's FD, but I agree that they are very "polished", "mature" for a junior team. Very lovely to watch. Like the Shibutanis as well, but fear that their tango FD may do them in. They got the technique down, but the height disparity alone probably hampers their presentation marks. Not entirely fair, but dance is always ruled by aesthetics as well. I don't know, is there hope that she could have a growth spurt sometime soon? They are such great skaters, but being a brother/sister team AND looking like they belong in pairs could really cause them problems once they move into Seniors, I fear.

i think this performance is best junior compulsory dance under the ISU Judging System. their technical point highest tecnical mark (20.24) and Program Components (17.28) below than MATTHEWS / ZAVOZIN (2005 world junior - 20.56) Skating Skills I&K=6.85, M&Z=6.89 but Timing, Performance, Interpretation mark higher for I&K. i don't understand why Program Component Score like this?

sorry for my english :)

It's not about aesthetics. The Shibutanis' don't have the skating skills of the other two Russian teams, not only I/K but Monko & partner. Just watched the JGPF again and would have both Russian teams (including I/K) definitely ahead of Shibutani/Shibutani due to basic skating alone. Igor Shpilband IMO is best at providing COP footwork and levels but his students in the past have generally lacked in skating skills IMO, nothing new. (maybe not as bad as Naomi Lang but they can definitely go to Zhulin or whoever who can polish up their basics, turning the edge using the whole blade not just the toe part...)

Also I'm not a fan of the Tango or the OD. OD is great. but they need to work on the expression, emotion part of skating, not just let's go and get this job done, complete all the footwork and get it done with.

the execution of elements by Shibutani/Shibutani (like many of Igor Shpilband's generic teams) is quite good however.

See, I'm not sure that Shpilband teams really lack skating skills so much as that they sometimes have a tendency to not finish their movements. IMO he seems to value high energy, high risk teams like D/W above anything else. His female skaters seem to stagnate sometimes, though, I agree. But IMO Lang didn't get any better with either Zhulin or Morozov, so I don't know if it's really the coaches in that scenario. As for choreography, yeah they do sometimes like their music recycling over there, don't they. OTOH there is the occasional gem. So Shpilband/Zueva are basically like every other much sought after choreographer. I mean, look at the generic dreck Zhulin produced for N/K...can't believe they became Olympic champions with that.

Thanks for the link.

Loved I/K. Fantastic dance, amazing edges, leg lines, etc. Amazing potential if they can stay healthy. Deserved the huge lead, this was in a different planet than the other two.

Not a fan of the Shibutanis' skate. They looked slow and juniorish, and their leg line didn't match well at all. Huge gap between them due to the height difference.

Pushkash/Guerreiro did a nice, solid job. Obviously this dance seems to suit them. It flowed better than the Shibutanis, and they were faster without being sloppy. I think I would have had them second.

I wish we could have seen Monko/Khaliavin to compare.

Low tech scores (relative to the top 3) on M/K would suggest they had a small error or two. Perhaps we will hear later.

Shibs timing was really good.

I thought I/K also did a lovely dance with a lot of confidence. Will be exciting to see how they continue develop as they were partnered once before, broke up and repartnered. Definitely the waltz is well suited to the long body lines and style of P&G. Would love to see them skate an entire free dance using a waltz theme. I found the Shibutani's very musical and timing was strong.

"Not a fan of the Shibutanis' skate. They looked slow and juniorish, and their leg line didn't match well at all. " Huge gap between them due to the height difference. .

Where is the truck? In just about every other "contribution" (that can be searched) that you mention the Shibutani's, you usually make reference to your ability to "drive a truck" between the two of them. Run out of trucks to drive through (over) them? отовсюду??

To those of us not vulnerable to propaganda, your diatribes are enjoyed as compliments. So feel free to keep them coming. But really, the hate factor is just "so" early 20th Century.
