I haven't seen an article yet where Kurt gave his opinion on the subject... he'd probably vote for Dai...

I googled it but didn't find anything. Kurt is a class act & I can imagine him saying, "oh no, I'm not getting involved in that." I'm sure he has an opinion. Kurt would certainly want the quad credited since he was the first to do it after all, but Kurt also values the performance. So, I have to agree, I *think* we would have felt Daisuke brought it all to the table.

I loved the fact that Dai tried the quad, bravely, even though, as the commentator pointed out, he had not had good luck with it earlier in the season, and one no longer gets generous scores for doing the rotations without being able to land the jump. To me, Dai was one of the very best skaters in the men's singles artistically, and he showed the heart of a champion as well. I felt that he totally deserved to be on the podium, because he presented the whole package of technical ability, true artistic ability and musicality, and a courageous heart. I imagine that Elvis would particularly apppreciate Dai's courage, and that Kurt would appreciate Dai's musicality and artistry.

This is what Kurt has said about the matter:

http://twitter.com/KurtBrowning

"Evan will be an amazing leader, as Olympic Champions need to be. Thanks to Plushenko's challenge, this gold medal is special."

"Quite a show in the mens event with broken laces, some broken dreams and a broken streak of two Olympic gold in a row. The right guy won."

Well, there ya go. Truly, on this matter, I'm more willing to listen to Kurt's opinion. I think Kurt's opinion is definitely less biased.

I'd definitely value Kurt's opinion over Elvis'. Well rounded skating makes for a well rounded opinion ? or something like that....

On a side note..(as per Kurt's tweet)..another kitsch skating show ? I'm really ambivalent about these things..but I guess it can't be bad for attracting people to the sport. And besides, any chance to see Stephane ( even weighed down with a partner) will probably tempt me to at least peek. I can always mute Hasselbeck.

Thinking back to prominent topics of past years on many skating boards , there should be a banner headline : " Porny John's back..and Shae Lyn's got him !" Just when we thought it was safe to post...

Let's not forget what acknowledged CoP master Brian Orser said "after Plushenko finished there was no doubt in my mind that Lysacek was the winner."

What Kurt said I dont disagree at all, just to point out that he doesnt like much Plush anyway, I know he would say the truth no matter what but through the years his commentary on Plush has not been much complimentary

that's because he's not exactly a fan of Plush's "Choreography" he doesn't have issues with the man personally (now Alexi Urmanov... )

Evan reminds me of Kurt - there's no way Kurt the competitor is the same skater that Kurt the Performer of today is... I think Evan will find tha same difference as he continues down this new path... at least that's my hope.

I agree, Kurt has grown as a skater on the pro-circuit. I can still remember him coming out in 88 and doing the Pee-Wee Herman dance in his program. LOL He didn't start out being the showman he is now!

If Kurt had continued as the skater of 1988-1993 I wouldn't be a die hard fan of his... he was all about the explosive power of skating (ala Evan) it wasn't until he was opened up to dance and to better choreography (one thing I have to thank Sandy for) that his tune started to change... the lessons of humility at the olympics helped quite a bit, too, I'm sure.

If you're interested in Kurt, he's all through this show - "co-hosting" and appearing in extended segments basically between every other segment, and talking about a whole range of topics while freaking out the host by skating circles around her.

If you specifically want his thoughts on the quad, etc, it's around 25:18 in this interview:
http://ctstv.com/ontario/player.php?ctsvidID=17431&show=Real%20Life

That same section of interview, he talks about the ladies' SP, etc earlier, but he talks specifically about thinking that the quad isn't scored high enough currently *but* also not wanting to overvalue it to the point where people don't learn to skate properly. He says, we could just turn the sport into a 17 second, go out and do a quad, sport, sure. But he's obviously not keen on that idea, and thinks that overvaluing the quad would lead down that route.

I knew I liked Kurt. That's pretty much my opinion, too (upping the quad a little, but just a little).
