Not surprised that Pushkash/Guerreiro are at the top of who's gone already. Great job from Tibbets/Brubaker of the US. Looks like Gilles/Donohue struggled a bit in the FD, though between 3rd and 7th in the FD are within 4 points of each other.

Wow, looks like Maia and Alex might miss out on a medal by just 0.46 points!

Edit: And that's what happened. Pretty unexpected, but congrats to the medalists: Ilinykh/Katsalapov of Russia with gold, Paul/Islam of Canada with silver, and Monko/Khaliavin of Russia with bronze!

It's really a shame we can not watch the performances cause I would like to see how the teams skated and if the very surprising results are justified. Im perfectly ok with IlynikhKatsalapov dominant victory, they are way ahead of the rest of the field here, but the sudden dumping of Shibs and PushGuerreiro and the even more sudden rise of PaulIslama & the italians seems pretty odd. At the JGP final A&V didnt seem that outstanding to me , but hey I thought the same about MOnkoKhaliavin and they won that competition.

US may end podiumless in all 4 categories. The worst Junior results since,,, like ever!!

Paul/Islam are a new team, but both partners had previous good results and experience in the JGP. There's been buzz around them, and for a new team, the 6 or so months since their JGP event (which was a good result) make a huge difference. Their Flamenco OD was really well done. It's certainly unexpected, but they are talented.

Pushkash/Guerreiro have been inconsistent all year.

Alessandrini/Vaturi are wonderfully expressive skaters; I'm surprised they did so poorly at the JGPF! I agree that Monko/Khaliavin weren't as good as the JGPF made them seem, but they're good twizzlers with good footwork.

Not sure what happened with the Shibs aside from the reported twizzle mistake in the OD. That can kill your score.

Wow. Congratulations to Paul & Islam! They've been undefeated all season in Canada, and It's really great to see them prove their worth on the international stage. I guess that's another team that's going to be in the fight for a spot to the 2014 Olympics. I expect that these two will do really well at Canadian nationals next year. I'm especially pleased for Mitchell Islam. He and Joanna Lenko showed so much promise a few years ago, but her poor health ultimately ended their career. It's great to see him finally getting the world junior medal that I thought he would have gotten a couple of seasons ago.

a) Igor Shpilband has sold them out to get a gold medal for Davis and White at upcoming Worlds in Torino (like he did at GPF 09, but Shibutanis rightfully got the bronze at that time whereas davis and white didn't deserve gold lol)
b) Shibutani/Shibutani just aren't better skaters than I/K and Monko & partner.

I'm going with b.

Paul/Islam marks certainly look questionable. but i should watch the top 4 before jumping to any unwarranted conclusions.

The top three performances are usually posted the next day at the event website. So far I have watched up to day 3.

Paul/Islam are an AWESOME team. They have a ton of potential, and totally deserved being undefeated in Canada. Really in a league of their own at Junior. I am SO happy for them. The hunt for the top 5 in Canada at Senior next year will be tough, as I expect many teams will stick around, but Paul/Islam have an excellent shot of finishing in that top 5, perhaps knocking out Ralph/Hill, who I do not think have improved that much.

Ralph & Hill made the bad choice to go to 4CC's rather than Jr Worlds, where they were beaten by both HM/C and W/P. I am sad they did that. They had an awesome OD this year.

The thing that is the most dubious is that I/K got all 4's on their elements. No senior team has done that, including V&M. Since we will not see the performances of those who were dumped, we will never know whether they deserved dumping or not.

But we are also talking about some newer teams vs some experienced teams who are veterns on the JGP circuit too (more than one year) Except for the 3rd Russians. What I'm saying is those teams were going to start out earlier this season with PCS advantage because the judges knew them, whereas the judges didn't know the other teams. But the judges can start to form different opinions when they see the teams all together in action. The Canadian pair is quite talented, and I liked their Flamengo a lot. I/K are I/K. Maybe things are a little huh? But I don't think the concept of newer teams scores increasing as the judges see them action is ridiculous either.

That is dubious I will agree. I still think I/K deserved to win here though they are clearly in the class of their own. Its not the caller who seems to think that, its the judges too. They got eights by all about 3 judges (and the highest PCS by the other 3) in the free too.
