He had a lot of media apperances before the Olympics because he was one of the Symbol Athletes for the Japanese Olympic Committee. He could not take back his word.... Interestingly, I heard that his coach was willing to put it, even though his success rate was nowhere near the level that can be used in a program, seen from the normal standard.
Why did he decline? Daisuke and fashion shoots would seem to be a perfect match.
