Maybe it would be better to scrap Worlds post Olympics. The skaters just seem so tired!

No!!!! It gives the skaters who had disappointments at the Olympics a chance for redemption, and a chance for others who didn't make it to the Olympics (due to national placements) to shine and get international exposure and experience.

I think Worlds after Olympics is great. It's a great opportunity for skaters who aren't at the Olympics and for those who were there, but didn't do well. It's certainly going to be an exciting long program tomorrow.

She is a great jumper. She has a really great tight air position and she does not hesitate going into jumps. Yes. Sometimes she can be a little unstable with landing. But I will tell you in the future she can be the one and she would become the better skater than Yuna in a year. Watch out everone!!!

lol don't go too far ahead lol When Yuna was at her age her jumps were soooo much better and her 3-3 was even better than now. If she can fix her flutz, UR, harsh landing (look at the ice), and shaky edge in a year than that would be great. Oh, and also skating skills and artistic expression.

Memo to ISU: please put the Worlds before the Olympics starting with Sochi!

That's a horrible idea to have the skaters burned out by the time of the Olympics, a championship they dream of and have to wait 4 years for. Skaters need to be able to come down from the Olympics. The ISU either needs to allow the Olympics to qualify Worlds spots for the following season and do away with Worlds in an Olympic year altogether or allow Worlds to be held in late April instead of late March so the athletes have another month to recoup from the Olympic event.

Tara & Johnny are providing an explanation of where Yu-Na lost points on the layback and the spiral. Still surprised by Yu-Na's performance and score, but that's skating. I don't think she will withdraw. It will be interesting to see where she draws to skate - hopefully last in her group. I do think she will pull up - I think she's mad at herself and will not let that happen again. Also, with a few notable exceptions (2009 Worlds, 2010 Olympics) Yu-Na usually skates great in one phase and not-so-great in the other phase. But we've never seen her not skate in the final group.

Yay for Mirai!! Let's see how she handles this pressure. I don't think she'll win - and I hope she doesn't put any extra pressure on herself. I'm sure Frank will give her the right guidance.

My podium prediction: Gold - Mao, Silver - Yu-Na, Bronze - Mirai.

Great job by the top 3 - would have had Cynthia in the final group. She outskated Yuna and she has better style then Rachael. But the early skate really cost her. Should be an interesting long. So many unknown factors. Can Marai handle being first. In the past she hasn't had good luck. Can Laura handle being in a medal spot. Can Ksenia handle skating in the final group. Can Yuna come back. Will those that had poor shorts come back strong in the long. Not sure how Cynthia will handle this either! But she is only 5 points -about 1 jump out of 3rd place! If the pressure gets to some of those in the final group she might be able to move into a top 5 finish. Maybe not making the final group will be a good thing for her. At least skating in the 2nd final group her PCS marks should go up.

You'd also see a lot of the medal contenders skip Worlds, so they can be fresh for the Olympics. I think the whole idea is ridiculous.

Yes, I also expect Yu-Na to come back and medal, and it's what I want to happen. I was shocked by the spiral mistake, but I don't feel she is superhuman yet. It's got to be tough for her, for people to have such huge expectations of her every time. I was surprised she wanted to skate at Worlds, but if you think about it, based on how her season has gone this year (and the scoring), it could have been an easy chance to win another world title.

So Yuna is 10 points behind but for her she can make that up. I mean she just got a 150 at the Olympics! Even if Mirai and Mao are clean Yuna can still win gold. Actually now Carolina has a good shot at a medal if she can hold it together.

Men's FS wasn't all that wonderful. Dance OD - many teams made mistakes, especially on twizzles. Of the lot, I think only D/W and V/M really whipped it.

Maybe it would be better to scrap Worlds post Olympics. The skaters just seem so tired!

I've often thought that Worlds should not be held in an Olympic year, but then again, it's a chance for some of the younger skaters to get opportunity on the World stage as replacements for those who "pull" and also an opportunity for people like Mirai who clearly brought her A-game when others did not.

I agree. Mirai is really good, and her spins are amazing, but I don't think the 16 year old Mirai is as good as the 16 year old Yuna. I will never forget Yuna's 2007 world championship sp tango. I think Mirai (or anyone) can only beat Yuna when Yuna makes these mistakes. Basically Yuna loses to herself.

I think the skating order can tell the tale. Remember a few skaters did came back from 7th to 1st (Stephane at 2006 SC, Adam at 2010 4CC) and it's only a 10-point gap between Mirai and Yuna! For Yuna to win, she needs to skate like it's Vancouver (if she's got any strength left) and hope Mirai and Mao get DG on jumps. But if she at least medals or move up, I'll be happy for Yuna!

For Mirai to "pull a Kimmie" (however I think Mirai's more talented than Kimmie), skate lights out again and hope Mao gets GD on one or both 3As. Mao's hungry so if she wins, I'll be happy that she redeemed herself from an awful start.

It's ironic that Rachael is now getting all those DG calls while Mirai is not. I guess everyone still upset about what happened at Nationals and karma came to bite poor Rachael in the booty!

Okay time to move over to the FD! Seems like Russia's in deep trouble! K/N withdrew!

HOLY COW the tech controllers today are very strict on DGs and levels! I'm curious about the protocols.

Shin Amano is the technical specialist. He's been very strict in the past. Too strict IMO.

So happy for Mirai. I saw the more polished yet fired Mirai at CoC (was her first GP?) and she absolutely blew me away at the nationals. So good to see her showing off what she's got!! Btw did she get full credit for 3lutz/3toe?

Mao made this difficult program her own- What beautiful lines, and she seemed faster than usual (espeically with spiral). And she makes me forget nailing 3axels is a BIG freaking deal! Too bad about the DG.

Yuna: how unexpected. It must be difficult for her after the olympics. I have to say I was relieved to see her PCS reflect today's skate though. TES on the other hand... will have to see the protocols.

Fingers crossed for Japan's 3 spots....

(Edited to add: I meant regarding Yuna's PCS that I was glad the judges didn't seem to 'hold her up', hence the lower than usual PCS mark by her standard.)

Maybe Mirai isn't up to where a 16 year old Yuna was on jumps, but I would venture to say everything else is there or better.

Great for Cynthia to do so well though, yes would have had her ahead a few places, Carolina was fortunate in her marks. The men were fantastic, a shame there was so many mistakes from the ladies tonight.

I still think Yuna will win. I think she will skate lights out tomorrow, Mirai will go clean and come in 2nd, Mao will have axel trouble and hang on to the bronze and then the European ladies will follow with Miki mixed in there somewhere.

Ik. Miki Probably will go up and Mao can keep it together. Japan and USA: 3 SPOTS.
