Of course you are right. But I don't think it is bad form in having a little fun and calling Michelle
    "Doctor".

My partner is a Ph.D and no, you can't call yourself "Doctor" on an honorary doctorate. However, I will now think of Michelle as "Doctor Kween!"

So if we can't call her doctor, at least we can say, "your majesty."

How delightful! And yes, I imagine that someday she will get her real Ph.D., earned by her own toil. She seems like that kind of person. Until then, Kween will be enough of a title for her. After all, she's the one and only in that department.

I found the college website and on it is the President's blog @ http://blogs.svc.edu/president/
where she describes her reasons for choosing Michelle for this honor.

While on their site, I found the college President's email addy and wrote her that she should consider (if not already in the planning) webcasting the commencement ceremonies and not only would it attract a large viewership from her many fans, but would also be a great PR move for the University to promote such coverage.

She replied back saying: "Very good suggestion. Let me see what we can do.
And thanks for the kind words on the selection". Karen Gross.

If something develops from this I will update in this thread.

That reminded me of the Gloria Estefan song "Doctor Beat" but sung with "Doctor Kween" instead

Yes, but I also like the thought of her being addressed as "Madam Ambassador."

This seems like a real possibilty - and if it is what she wants what a good thing it would be for the USA.

Or maybe "Dr Madam Ambassador Kween" or does that sound a tad pretentious

Phil Hersh's new article with Michelle's commencement speech on 5/8 at Southern Vermont College. Great speech!

I completely agree, I have a friend in a PhD program for computational biology at georgetown and I can't even imagine how many endless hours he will spend in the lab to finally earn it, let alone defend his dissertation in front of a panel of distinguished scientists. I think it is incredibly offensive and distasteful to go around calling yourself "Doctor' when you haven't earned the title. When Michelle has published in Nature then we can call her "Dr. Kwan"
