Yeah, Mirai is a very good skater and can get very high marks too. Kananko is still n the juniors, but she needs some polishing and needs to work on her speed.

So Kanako skated with Mao when Mao was 12~15 y.o. But Kanako and Miki did not.

Technically, Mirai's getting there. Look at how quickly she's been fixing her UR issues. She's a talented jumper, more so than Kanako. Both have good speed, but I think Mirai's a little faster. Mirai also seems to have more power when entering her jumps.

In their SPs, Mirai does a 3Lz-2T, a 3F and a gorgeous 2A. Murakami does a 3T-3T, a 3F and a 2A. I don't know too much about Kanako (I think she's working on 3F-3T), but I know for sure that Mirai's trying to upgrade her combo to a 3Lz-3T, giving her the same SP layout as Yu-na. Mirai has already reached 70 points with her 3-2 combo SP. What she could do with a 3-3 might take her closer to Yu-na's scores, already giving her the edge over Kanako in the SP.
    In LP, Mirai does 3Lz-2T-2T, 2A-3T, 3F, 3Lz, 3Lo-2A, 2A, 3T, giving her a BV* of 54.8 (jumps 38.6)
In LP, Kanako does 3Lz, 3F, 2S-2A, 3F-2A, 3T, 3S-2Lo-2Lo, giving her a BV* of 53.0 (jumps 36.8) (but she will probably upgrade her jump layout when she enters the senior ranks).
In general, Mirai is much stronger on toe jumps (which garner more points). Murakami's toe pick technique just seems off. Mirai doesn't have a 3S. I wonder why. Murakami doesn't have a 3Lo.

    * Assuming both get FSSp4, SpSq4, FCoSp4, SlSt3 and CCoSp4.

As for mental strength, Mirai's Worlds performance was... well, awful. I'm guessing she has yet to tame her nerves, but I'm hoping she will get there. The pressure of being 1st in the SP and American hopes for three spots probably got to her. She did much better as an underdog at the Olympics. So far, Kanako has been pretty consistent, but we have yet to see what effect staggering expectations or rivalry will have. I agree that both have charisma. They're both charming. They do strike me as still a little cutesy, but I'm hoping that will change soon.

I'm impressed with what a powerful jumper Kanako is given that she 5 feet tall and stick thin.

I think it's because of Yamanda. Look at Mao when she was young and also Midori.

    Silverlake:

I always seem to agree with you. Kanako's shape, even at this young age, does not seem to bode well for her future. Her hips don't lie. She's got the best smile in the sport, but I have a strong feeling that the puberty monster is gunning for her. Mirai and the Russians all the way.

Yeah...I was noticing how even though she's tiny and very thin, she does have hips and we all saw what hips did to Kimmie Meissner...goodbye 3-3 . http://www.skatingjapan.jp/gpf/image.../jr_ladies.jpg Not only is she shorter than Shelepen and Gao (who are like 5'2", 5'3" max) but her legs are also quite a bit shorter meaning she might not grow much taller, and grow wider instead and yeah, that could be problematic.

I mean Shizuka had hips and was still a great jumper but she also had better technique than Kanako and incredible speed. We'll see. If I had to predict, Kanako and Polina Shelepen will get hit hard by puberty, while Ovcharova, Gao, Kwak, and Tuktamysheva will probably survive with most of the jumps intact. Agafonova and Sotnikova are so little that it's hard to tell.

I think at this point, Mirai is a better all-around skater. However, I do love both of them--I think their personality just shines through in their skating.

I don't think that Kanako has "problem hips" as some seem to think so.

I like all of Kanako's costumes--I think Mao should go to her designer.

What a cute video! Kanako does have nice costumes, but I'm not sure if the same designs would look good on Mao, who has a different body type (taller, longer legs, shorter torso, narrow hips, prominent shoulders). Kanako reminds me a bit of Yukari when she was younger because they are both very elegant and little.

Kanako is an absolute DOLL. Where are these "problem hips" you are referring to in your previous post? If there is a problem it might be that she has no hips at all (yet).

Her costumes are great - and Mao and Miki used to have great costumes too before they took a step back in time and became so provincial with the odd looking Russian costumes.

The problem is not so much her hips as the fact that she is only 5 feet tall at age 15 and doesn't have the longest legs. Mao was 5'3" at age 15 and was all legs so it might mean Kanako is destined to stay short forever, which shouldn't be an issue unless she gains a lot of weight, which it would be easier to do where most of it likely won't be transferred to her height. If she ends up being built like Fumie or Yukari though (which is probably likely) she should be fine. It was more of a precaution than anything, Kimmie and Caroline were really promising at that age too and then puberty causes problems. She's still adorable though

ITA about the costumes. It seems like Miki wants to hide the fact that she has a hot body with her costumes and Mao is trying to hide hickeys from her boyfriend with all those choker necklines
