What will 2010-11 bring for Caroline Zhang?

Based on past years' Grand Prix selection guidelines, Zhang is guaranteed one Senior GP due to being in the top 24 ISU World Standings rankings (12th) at the end of this season. The top 24 skaters/teams in the ISU Season Best scores list are also guaranteed 1 Senior GP. Since Zhang is 20th on that list, it's likely she will end up with 2 GP assignments.

We won't know for sure if there will be any significant changes in the GP selection guidelines until the 2010-11 GP Announcement is published online.

With none of the little Russian babies (Shelepen, Ovcharova, Agafonova) moving up and Agnes likely to do the JGP, I would be very surprised if Caroline didn't get 2 GP events. USFSA would likely give her 2 events before giving someone like Czisny or Dobbs 2 events, and I actually think it's likely all three will get 2 events each.

All 3 ladies might get 2 events, but none of them get an automatic bye to Nationals. I know that they get a bye through Regionals or Sectionals if it conflicts with an international assignment. But how close does it have to be? Is it possible for a skater to get 2 assignments, and still have to do Regionals or Sectionals?

How often does that happen though? That a skater gets 2 GP events but not a bye to Nationals?

My understanding is that USFS' international bye window is 7 days before or after, and up to 10 days when travel to Asia is involved. However, for the past few seasons, anyone who has received 2 Senior Grand Prix assignments has not had to compete either at Regionals (in October) or Sectionals (in November).

I wonder when that interview was actually conducted. In it Caroline says that she doesn't have an choreography/programs yet...so if it was recently conducted, what was she in Colorado for?? Picking music? How very curious indeed.

I would have to guess the interview was done after 4CC, but before Colorado. She seems fairly confident that this season will be better.

Oh, right - a Gypsy Rose Lee number, definitely. :eek:hwell:

Now here's a piece that has Caroline's name written on it.

I was kidding .....but maybe Caroline trying something different and out of her comfort zone might be a good idea.
There is still lots of music from the "Nutcracker" she could use - but I would rather see her do something different this season.

Not another Spanish SP and maybe something like a film score with distinct tempo and mood changes for her LP would help her grow as a skater.

I think choosing a film score would be a good choice; I can see Caroline doing well with Tara-like or Sasha-like programs. Maybe she should try a music piece they've done?

As for her exhibition, I know this has become something of a cliche, but I really would like to see her do a peppy hip hop number ;)

I think he got it from this site (after page loads, let your mouse hover on the big-eye Cleopatra of your choice. :)

He should have copied the Cleopatra's from that site more closely as it would have been an improvement. :)

I wish Miki came out dressed a little more like this:

Pretty girls do not need a costume that distracts from their natural beauty.
Although I could live without the props :eek:hwell:

 How about this ("the greatest music for winds every composed, and that includes John Philip Sousa!")

Then for a palate cleanser, while Caroline is skating around picking up all of her stuffed animals and flowers and heading for the Kiss and Cry...

Here is my favorite Mozart accompanied by a bar graph.
Try it, it is pretty cool ........and more info about this can be found by scrolling down under the comments section.

Hint - the greens are the higher strings and get darker based on the range of the string instrument.

Beethoven stood in awe of this symphony and I have found even musicians not particularly fond of Mozart like this work.

Perhaps not a good choice for Caroline to skate to - she might do better with the lighter wind pieces mm posted - but they are so amusing I see Mirai better suited to bring them to life. ;)

ETA: The von Weber would be a nice choice for Caroline!

ITA. Miki is a beautiful girl with a killer bod and you'd hardly know thanks to those awful costumes she so often wears :rolleye:
