Is there ant news yet? I'm hoping she skates one more year as I love her style. There is really no one else like her. Another special talent.

I think I heard somewhere she wanted one more Canadian title. How many will that make and will it be a record?

I think Joannie will skate at the 2011 Nationals for that record and then retire. She has mentioned how special it would be to break the record...I think she should skip the GP and go for it.

If she skates at the 2011 Nationals, she might as well do Worlds too. I would think Skate Canada would expect her to do Worlds if she wins nationals, and not be too pleased if she just came to Nationals and left.

It will be a modern history record, but not an all time record.

Joannie has won the Canadian championship 6 times (2005-2010). That is currently a tie with Jennifer Robinson (1996, 1999-2003). Although, Joannie has won it all consecutively.

The all time record is Constance Wilson-Samuel, who won it 9 times. (1924, 1927, 1929-1935)

Well, I agree if she goes for that National title she should compete another year. At least I'd like to see it. Given the opportunities professionally that have and will come her way, tho, I rather doubt she will train really hard, do GP events/Worlds. Still, no announcements yet gives me hope.

She said that she'd make her announcement after the SOI tour was finished. I hope she stays one more year, I don't want her to remain tied with Jen Robinson on National titles.

I wonder if her deal with Birks is an indication she will stay for at least another year. Of course, her current fame and popularity makes her an asset to the company whether she competes or not.

It would benefit Skate Canada if she did compete at 2011 Worlds. Between Joannie and Cynthia Phaneuf's new found confidence, they could earn Canada three spots for 2012 Worlds. Otherwise, it would likely only be two.

Yeah, there's even a small hope of having Rochette and Phaneuf both on the podium (emphasis on small, if Mao and Yu-Na are there). I don't think Phaneuf and Samson, Lacoste, or Szmiett (or someone else, but those are the most likely choices) can earn three spots considering Samson didn't even make it to the FS at the 2010 Worlds.

Last I heard Joannie plans to continue another couple of seasons and wants to skate in another Olympics. Of course, anything could happen. I hope she does continue because I think she is really hitting her stride now as far as competing goes. I will never forget her brave skate after hearing the news of her mother passing...Oh, Joannie!

If she does continue to the 2014 Olympics, and continues to win Canadian Nationals over the next four years, she will exceed the all time record of Constance Wilson-Samuel.
