    Canadian Summer competitions, General

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this thread, so if not perhaps the moderater could suggest a more appropriate forum.

Apparently skatingforums is shutting down in the next day or two. I had just posted some information there which summarized results from Canadian summer competitions, so I'll repost it here. (Since I am the original author of the posts, I assume I can do that, especially since the other forum will be inaccessible shortly).

In these posts I've listed the top ten junior skaters so far this season, comparing only by total scores at their best competition to date. Proviso: I realize that scores cannot be compared directly from competition to competition, because judges at different competitions may vary in how generous they are in their GOE or PCS marks. Nevertheless, I find this interesting, and some other people may also find this to be of interest.

Thanks for posting this! It's very timely, just at the start of the JGP season.

Welcome, and post long and post often.

    Happy to see you geoskate.

I also posted a lot at skatingforums under the Canadian section.

You will find that geoskate does a great job of tracking skaters' scores during the season especially noting season best scores for those who have never gone on skatingforums' Canadian section.

Interesting you listed some novice scores here. I know that in Canadian competitions at least the novice PCS multipliers are different and lower than the junior/senior multipliers. It would have been nice to translate where these novice scores would have been in junior conditions ( not an exact science but a fun excercise) but you need the complete protocols to even attempt to do that decently.

I find the Canadian summer competitions do a pretty good job of publishing complete protocols unlike the American ones. Some sections in Canada take a little longer to publish the protocols but they do get published.

Jenna on FSU posted the entries for the Moran Memorial competition happening this weekend. It's of interest to Canadians because Daniela-Bella Favot is entered in that competition, in senior. Here the general link for the American Academy; you'll see the various links for Moran Memorial near the centre of the page, including the 'schedule by last name' in which Daniela-Bella is listed.

I was even wondering if she was still skating, because I hadn't seen her name in any summer competitions. It will be interesting to see how she does here, because she is one of the two alternates for the two JGP Japan spots (the other one being Kaetlyn Osmond). Vanessa Grenier is one of the two assigned skaters to JPG Japan, but with her less-than-perfect skate at JGP France, Skate Canada should be considering sending either Daniela-Bella Favot or Kaetlyn instead of Vanessa IMO. I personally would send Daniela-Bella (if she skates well at Moran), because in my opinion she was robbed of a JPG spot last season. Kaetlyn is a promising skater too, and would be worthy of the assignment, but she's young (14, I think), so she still has a few JGP seasons ahead of her.

I saw Daniela skate at Liberty in 2009, and enjoyed her feeling for her programs and the music very much! I hope she gets a JGP spot.

I haven't seen anything posted yet about three upcoming Canadian competitions.

Autumn Skate will take place September 16-19 in Ottawa. Entries are listed at this link. Probably the most notable entries are three of the senior men (Elladj Baldé, Kevin Reynolds and Jeremy Ten). It will be interesting to see if Kevin does in fact try two quads in the short program, and he has hinted he might.

The junior dance competition has 14 entries, so it should also be quite competitive, although the competition is missing the top junior Canadian teams.

Isabelle Henderson competition takes place September 24-26 in Hamilton, Ontario. The entries for this competition are at this link.

There are three entries here that will be skating on the senior Grand Prix. The most notable entry here is definitely the dance team of Crone/Poirier. Ralph/Hill are also entered, and the pair team of Moore-Towers/Moscovitch.

Finally, the Souvenir Georges-Éthier competition in Trois-Rivières, Quebec will take place September 29-October 3. The entries for this competition are at this link. Probably the most well-known entry here is Marc-André Craig.

They don't have a junior or senior dance competition (very surprising for a competition in Quebec), but perhaps they didn't want to compete with Autumn Skate in Ottawa two weeks earlier.

sandhufan put up a nice writeup on forums.isu.org. Really good comments about the senior mens with a couple other notes.

    Update:

The results for this competition are up here.

    Unfortunately no protocols though.

The entries for the Octoberfest competition in Barrie for October 14 - 17 are now up.

    http://www.skatecanada-centralontari...2010/index.htm

    Some highlights of entries.

Senior Men: Russell, Rogozine, Balde. Only 7 entries but a very good field for a fall competition.

Junior Dance is good too with the Khongs, Kelly Oliveira / Jordan Hockley and Carsewell/Doleman appearing. Only 6 entries here but a quality field.

Senior Dance: Paul/Islam will do their short dance here. They won't do the free though

It will indeed be interesting to see how Joey Russell fares against a red-hot Andrei Rogozine and against a rapidly recovering Eladj Baldé.

American readers may be interested in the fact that Chloe Katz/Joseph Lynch and Becky Bereswill/Trevor Young are entered in the senior pair competition.

On another topic, the entries for Sask Open (October 8-10) have been posted at http://www.skatecanadasaskatchewan.c...sk%20Skate.pdf
