That's an insanely overinflated score for Monko/Khaliavin!! even for top senior teams.. heck is reaching DomShabs at Vancouver levels of inflation..

And ouch for the spanish team, I really liked them and their PCS are good enough but they were buried with no mercy in the TES score.

We'll have to wait for the video to see if the performance warrants the high score. I frankly thought M/K should have gone to the senior ranks along with I/K. By staying in juniors, I believe they are doing what's known as "sandbagging."

I do agree that M&K are more than ready for seniors, (they are staying Junior to keep earning more WS points, which is fair enough) but even still, checking out last seasons scores the only ones to have above 65 points were VIrtue&Moir and Davis&White, and I really really doubt M/K are at that level yet..:sheesh:

Come on, it's not the original dance anymore, it's the short dance! We can't compare the scores for SD with OD, it's different programs, different elements and of course different scores. Let's just wait for the senior Grand Prix and see, maybe V/M will get 80+ points for their SD?..

There's only one extra technical element in the SD (the second GW pattern since the first basically replaces the Circular Step sequence) than in OD last year and the factoring of PCS remained the same, so the point-range difference should be only about 5-6 points.. But yeah.. At this rate I'm sure VM will crush these numbers... LOL.. MK just increased their SD score by 10 points from one competition to another and StepanovaBukin and BottBrown did almost the same at last weeks event.. By the time we get to Tokyo, Tessa & Scott will be the first to crack 100 points.. :):)

The protocols are up and here's how M&K got so high a score in the SD:

1 Ksenia MONKO / Kirill KHALIAVIN RUS 65.12 36.16 28.96 0.00

1 SlLi4 4.00 1.00 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 1 5.00
2 STw4 6.00 0.50 1 1 1 2 1 1 1 0 6.50
3 VW1Sq4 6.00 0.83 2 2 2 2 2 1 1 1 6.83
4 VW2Sq4 8.00 0.50 1 0 1 1 1 1 1 1 8.50
5 NtMiSt4 8.00 1.33 2 0 1 2 2 2 1 0 9.33
Base Value 32.00 TES 36.16

Let's compare last year's OD format:
there were only 4 elements that counted toward TES. This year there are 5 elements.
A lift (highest base score 5.0)
Step sequence 1 (highest base score 8.00)
Step Sequence 2 (highest base score 8.00)
Twizzles (highest base score 6.5)

So the highest potential base score was 27.5 last year.

Here M&K's base score was 32.0, because two sequences of the Viennese, done correctly, nets you 14whopping points in base score.

Note also that this year, twizzles are harder to get level 4, and level 4 is worth only 6, not 6.5, and a straight line lift, level 4 is worth only 4.0, not 5.0.

So two items that D&W and V&M excel at, lifts, and twizzles, have been devalued.

Considering the inflation at Worlds and the Olympics last season, it's a possibility. But we need to seriously stop tempting the Skategods.

M/K did say they were staying in juniors to rack up ranking points so it's not surprising that's they're doing so well. Hopefully they'll have a great season!

I'm curious to see how the levels for the GW and VW will be called for the rest of the season.

If someone is interested... Sara told me that they had a problem with her costume, a part of of it was going to fall to the ice, so she held it in her hand, and that made them lose the concentration and missed the twizzles. Anyway she said that they were quite happy with the performance and didn't understand why one of the waltz sequences wasn't leveled. Now they can't wait for showing their best at Dresden

The scores for the FD are way over the roof too. The judging at the JGP events seems to be very inconsistent and is tending towards inflation.. teams always improve as the season advances but this is just weeks between competitions and look how the scores have been inflated for the top teams:

Bott & Brown : 1st Event 102.46 - 2nd Event 123.65 .......... +21 points of difference
Monko & Khaliavin : 1st Event 138.27 - 2nd Event 155.04 .... +17 points of difference.
Stepanova & Bukin : 1st Event 117.60 - 2nd Event 130.08 ..... +13 points of difference.
Cannuscio & McManus: 1st Event 108.61 - 2nd Event 119.21 ... + 11 points of difference.
Papadakis & Cizeron : 1st Event 107.29 - 2nd Event 115.14 .... + 8 points of difference.
Sinitsina & Zhiganshin: 1st Event 126.62 - 2nd Event 133.86 ..+ 7 points of difference.

Lets hope its just because the judges are adjusting to the new format, but like Doris has stated the difference in base value between OD and SD is only of 4.5 points and the inconsistency is in both SD and FD.
Or maybe is just your usual overscoring for dance juniors (the top junior teams usually score really even comparable to top senior scores but once they move up their numbers get dropped).

It's not only judges who are adjusting, but skaters and coaches also. At their first event they got low levels for some elements, so they watched protocols, worked on elements, maybe changed something and got higher levels at the second event
