Madison Chock and Greg Zuerlein USA (ISU Ranked 14th)
Coach: Igor Shpilband, Marina Zueva
Choreographer: Igor Shpilband, Marina Zueva
FD Music, Music from Cabaret
First at LPIDC with a score of 72.14, but at the time they were using a different program to Santana. The new program is still rather new to them, and I would expect it to be somewhat unfinished looking.
Short Dance Results:
4 Madison CHOCK / Greg ZUERLEIN USA 54.19 28.21 25.98 6.43 6.21 6.43 6.64 6.68 0.00 #7

He's in black shirt and pants with purple
front crossed suspenders
She's in another little black dress
dance hall style with a bright yellow bow
on her butt.
Split up and down into fast twizzles
Kind of a charlesto/ragtime effect
they are keeping pretty good speed through
the fw
this is meant to be comedic
into spin money makes the world go round
little hand waves by Madison
he puts his pockets back in
little kick jumps by Greg

Cool upside down rightside up lift
very fast stepping to very fast music
pose and change
this is not as dire as I expected

skates into a lovely lift on a back edge
by Greg
torch version of Caberet
Madison emoting
this is better than last year's program
rotational lift to end.
split on end with music
they seem happy.
Crowd is not standing.

I've never seen them do comedy before, but it really worked, I think.

The Shibs may not pass them at Nationals.

Paul/Islam - such a talented team! They are the future of ice dance in Canada for sure, along with Weaver/Poje and Crone/Poirier, but really, they need to get their own personality on the ice. Dubreil/Lauzon had their personality, different from Bourne/Kraatz, different from Virtue/Moir, different from Weaver/Poje, different from Crone/Poirier...... This channeling of Tessa and Scott is just odd and a little creepy.

Pernelle Carron and Lloyd Jones FRA (ISU Ranked 28th)
Coach: Muriel Zazoui, Romain Haguenauer, D. Ribas
Choreographer: Antonio Najarro
FD Paint It Black; Angie; both by the Rolling Stones
Carron and Jones won Coupe de Nice, but only placed fourth in the FD with a score of 65.88, due to a blown lift. It will be nice to see a program to somewhat more modern music than Caberet and the cha cha.
Short Dance Results
3 Pernelle CARRON / Lloyd JONES FRA 54.43 28.71 25.72 6.39 6.14 6.39 6.54 6.61 0.00 #5

She's in a black outfit with cutouts
and red waist trims and a black bolero
He has black with a red cummerbund
I'm not getting A rolling stones vibe here

nice spinning lift with her at an angle
lots of gratuitous hand waving
good speed
rather simple f/w, emphasizing the edges
he jumps over her back
into Angie on the pair spin
odd little jump in it
and its labored
very slow orchestral version
lift combo ordinary
twizzles slightly out of sync on 2nd of 3
side by side hydroblade
clapping that makes no sense
music faster
toe steps by him in the f/w on purpose
you'd think this was flamenco?
she slides between his legs to passionate
end pose
this did not do it for me, I must say.

I would lose the bolero jackets--they got in the way, IMO and detracted from an overall interesting and well skated program.

I love this program by C/J and the costumes also but the ending step sequence wasn't really good today.

C/J trying to channel something spanish out of symphonic Rolling Stones...

Somehow, I kinda like this FD. But the costumes and the spanish flair gotta go...

Gorshkova/Buitikov - i don't know what to think of this, it's an eyefull; these folks hardly looked at each other, behind the music from time to time, looked tired by the end, and the costumes looked like halloween.
