Dai had second best LP.

No mention of UR on Oda's 4T.

No successful quad. I think Chan's put pressure on the contenders to do quads and it's their turns to fall.

Thank God these falls happened now :D I bet by march, all three will be in a much much better shape. It's unfair to compare them to Chan. Dai, for example, had no falls this competition. Plus, Kozuka was solid as a rock this season except today's FP, while Chan had one clean competition.

This is a pretty disappointing competition. No one landed the quad at JPN nationals in last three years. Kozuka was gifted 164 points with two falls. Japanese (inferior) version of Patrick Chan was born.

Chan was putting 2 years worth of progress in 2 competitions. He put quads in both programs and upped the difficulty level of his 3As as well. Normally a skater would start with a quad in the LP, falls a few times not just on the quads, eventually get the quad in competition and then learn to settle down to get the other jumps OK. Then, maybe, just maybe, he may have the guts to put it in the SP and goes through the same process.

By March, all should be in better shape. That is the plan for everybody - to peak at Worlds. It's a very even field for men but now it all depends on the progress from here on, both technically and mentally. I believe Chan is ahead at least mentally.

Mao is in a similar situation as Chan in that she has been pushing herself, in a longer plan than just about an immediate medal. Sooner or later, she will get there. Kudos to them both for their effort as well as for their fortitude to withstand the reactionary criticism and pressure during the unavoidable process.

I apreciate what Chan tried this season and I do wish him all the best, but I feel it's early to say he is ahead mentally after just one clean competition. If he skates clean at nationals and at 4 continents(if he goes there) I will be the first one to say he is the one to beat at worlds. He still has not landed the 4T-3T in the sp(Oda did), so he has things to work on. NMura, just because Kozuka had 2 falls here should we name him "Japanese (inferior) version of Patrick Chan"? It's only nationals, give this kid a break. He is learning how to cope with the preasure. Plus, I don't even want to remember how underscored he was excepting this season!
