what has happened to the Ukranian talent? I suppose its just like Russia, lack of money, coaches going to US. But its a shame.

They had Petrenko, Zadgorodniuk, Dmitrenko, Baiul, Liashenko, Lavrenchuk, Maniachenko-Efremenko, Grushina/Goncharov, Romanova/Yaroshenko but no one since

What happened to Ekaterina Proyda, she was beautiful too watch?

This is what Tatiana Volosozhar and Stanislav Morozov had to say about the situation in Ukraine:
Tatiana: But everything is really in ruins now. There was only one normal rink and now you can’t even get to it. Everything is rebuilt for football Euros in 2012.

Stanislav: You can't get to the entrance; you need to jump over holes, it’s like a precipice. When people don't need it, everything just falls apart.

Tatiana's now training in Russia with Maxim Trankov and it sounds like the situation over there is much better, at least in Moscow and probably Saint Petersburg. But other cities may have worse conditions, for example Perm:
"As for the ice, I think, nowhere is it like it is there," Bezmaternikh revealed. "We have an old ice rink, and nothing has been renovated. The ice can be like in waves."

This is an interview from September 2008. Maybe conditions in Perm have improved, otherwise Bazarova/Larionov would probably have left.
