Why? They didn 't even place in podium.

I just think they need at least another year, now they can't compete with teams like I/K even if the judges do what they did today

Both Ekaterina and Elena have the star-diva quality which I missed from ice-dancing Ekaterina B and Dimitri are so elegant and light across the ice, but I simply don't find that "extra" something in them, that champions have(I/K and R/T have it), or I just don't see it. But I love her posture and her arm movements. Plus, their first lift is a beauty! Their problem is their twizzles are hit or miss. Fortunately, they(he) hit them today! Congrats to the medalists! After seeing the performances I agree with the placements(on the podium), but I don't agree with the big difference between 2 and 3.

FD is on youtube.
Bobrova / Soloviev FD
Riazanova / Tkachenko FD
Khokhlova / Andreev FD
Ilinykh / Katsalapov FD
Gorshkova / Butikov FD
If I had to guess what was wrong with I/K's TES, the 2nd lift (rotational) looked short on revolutions (which loses levels), and the scoring of the twizzle should probably be level 1 as he put his foot down in the first twizzle. Plus lift 1 and the rotational half of the combo lift were kind of anemic; this reminds me that Nikita has had back trouble and they really have not been able to work their lifts as they would in a normal season. They were able to get level 3 on their steps at CoR. I saw a flat or two; they couldn't have gotten better than level 3 on the steps.
As to K&A, their steps should have been graded level 2, I think, IMO, but their lifts were fine, as were their twizzles, and their spin, while not wonderful, will have gotten its level (and in fact, those skills, all but their first lift, got their level 4's at Golden Spin of Zagreb). The really questionable thing is their PCS for transitions and skating skills, IMO.

Reason: fix link for G/B FD
After watching K/A's FD, I must say that while I agree that technically they need much more time together to be able to truly become a cohesive ice dance couple. Their artistic packaging and chemistry are there already. They have a movie star quality about the two of them and the right FD to show it off. (This is not say that I agree that they should have been placed so high.)
I really like the choreography, musical edits and selection, and overall sophisticated yet raw feeling of the FD. I wonder in some ways if it had been given to B/A or even D/W if it would have given those teams the interesting more modern direction that would fit their respective styles as well.
As for K/A, I hope they continue to put the time in together and see what another year of training will do for their technique.
It's K/A FD

Why on this earth would the Russian Federation send K/A over any of the top three? Why? That would be incredible, but not in a good way. I know we're not support to speculate about the future, but what a way to shoot themselves in the kneecap.
The more and more I watch R/T this season the more I enjoy their dances. The FD while they call it a Mexican Dance is more of a European version of a Habanera (Cuban Dance). I like it and the moments when they are in unison you can see their potential. They are a tall and sensual team. The only thing I didn't like was that she tends to muscle things- her upper body in twizzles, her positions in lifts. She needs to work on making things look effortless.
But otherwise, I like how they're quietly growing into a really stylish team. I prefer them to B/S.
B/S are a marvelously well-matched team in a physical sense. The proportions and match between their leg lines couldn't be better if you had created it through a mathematical formula. But the way they're being packaged has been a disappointment- they're dramatic but oddly bland at the same time. There's no spark there between the two of them. I think they need a different choreographer.

So it does not surprise me that K&A can beat G&B in the FD--whoever gave G&B that ChaCha as an FD should be shot. The fast little steps (including retrograde steps) of a chacha do not work on COP step sequences where edges Rule-G&B's FD is full of little toe steps and flats steps, which is in keeping with chacha, but not with COP.

There's nothing wrong with Jana's technique. She is fine. It's FEDOR who needs intensive training. Right now, his lack of technique is cramping her natural style. He's so big and so wooden that she squelches her own personality to avoid making him look even more wooden beside her.

When I say "their technique" I mean it in the sense of how they skate together technically as a couple- having the same knee bend/action, edge lean, timing etc. Whether one is a better individual dancer contributes to the whole but the couple has to come together technically as well.
As for Fedor, while I agree that he has a ways to go in terms of gaining fluidity and learning to lean and curve his body to match Jana better, I noticed small differences even between video footage of the Golden Spin and Russian Nats. He's much more active and bends his body towards her much better in this competition though he does still have a ways to go to build more fluidity to his moves.
However, I do feel that there is a chemical interaction between the two of them that some of the other couples don't have and can't be taught or practiced it just has to exist and that they have in spades.
Thank-you very much Lucky Star! I just watch the videos. Ilinykh/Katsakapov, the new upstart youngsters is realy impressive but it look Nikita' s control troubles need to get improved. Lena look better here. Ilinykh/Katsalapov are very young and fresh, and they have a good balance between tedchnical and artistic side of skating.

Khokhlova/Anddrev: This is a program I seen before, from Davis-White. Right from the composition, transition, moves is took from "Polovetsian Dances", "Eleanor Rigby" and "Phantom of the opera" of Davis-White. (Not enough link, dancing close holds in tight positions) . The teams who got above them are very fresh and bright, I think it is hard to beat them in the future . Good luck to everyone for the European and Worlds competitions
Lena look like ballet character in her tu-tu. It is very natural. They have a great easyness in the skating . But i thought SD mark was very high

Elena and Nikita said in their interview they are happy to get the chance to skate at the euros, so I guess we'll see them there in the end
Just watched I/K program, in term of presentation I think this is the best they have done this season. The choreographer is brilliant, I feel like I watch bolshoi ballet on ice.
