    2011 competitions in Japan

Inter Collegiate Skating Competition (Kushiro, Hokkaido)
    http://www.skatingjapan.jp/National/...tercollegiate/

    Men
    1 Takahiko Kozuka 82.09 1 171.47 1 253.56
    2 Takahito Mura 78.98 2 139.93 2 218.91
    3 Kento Nakamura 58.42 4 126.54 3 184.96
    4 Akio Sasaki 64.16 3 106.32 6 170.48
    5 Tomoyuki Koriyama 48.71 10 111.21 4 159.92
    6 Junzo Nishigami 54.58 5 105.22 7 159.80

So, Kozuka finally landed a clean quad? I hope he didn't waste a precious card at this not so important competition. Scores are more inflated than nationals. No need to take seriously.

    Ladies
    1 Mutsumi Takayama 55.54 1 104.45 1 159.99
    2 Aki Sawada 49.22 3 95.52 3 144.74
    3 Shoko Ishikawa 46.08 5 97.51 2 143.59
    4 Mari Suzuki 51.04 2 87.11 6 138.15
    5 Risa Mochizuki 47.16 4 87.27 5 134.43
    6 Rumi Suizu 39.34 11 92.57 4 131.91

National Sports Winter Festival (January 26-29, Hachinohe)
    http://www.skatingjapan.jp/National/...ival/index.htm

    Junior Ladies
    1 Yuki Nishino 52.64 86.71 139.35
    2 Kako Tomotaki 49.50 86.56 136.06
    3 Ayumi Goto 44.46 86.92 131.38
    4 Yukiko Fujisawa 48.40 81.50 129.90
    5 Miyabi Oba 47.48 82.23 129.71
    6 Saya Ueno 49.50 76.33 125.83
    7 Yuka Kono 43.38 81.53 124.91
    8 Karen Kemanai 49.98 74.28 124.26
    9 Nana Matsushima 38.86 85.38 124.24
    10 Kana Muramoto 43.86 77.20 121.06

    Junior Men
    1 Keiji Tanaka 62.89 129.94 192.83
    2 Ryuju Hino 64.86 122.47 187.33
    3 Ryuichi Kihara 50.28 119.27 169.55
    4 Sei Kawahara 49.26 107.48 156.74
    5 Yoji Tsuboi 53.50 101.94 155.44
    6 Jun Suzuki 44.70 104.27 148.97
    7 Fumiya Itai 47.15 93.63 140.78
    8 Kosuke Nozoe 53.25 84.40 137.65

Senior Ladies SP (FS event is tomorrow)
    1 Akiko Suzuki 63.18
    2 Fumie Suguri 54.56
    3 Mutsumi Takayama 53.70

Overall, the junior ladies event is not so encouraging. Fujisawa's 3A attempt was "3A< fall" this time, so it's improving. She needs to reduce other errors though. On the men's side, Tanaka and Hino made good performances, including three 3axels. Tanaka could be a podium threat at Jr worlds.

    National Sports Winter Festival

    Senior Ladies
    1 Akiko Suzuki 63.18 122.70 185.88
    2 Fumie Suguri 54.56 103.11 157.67
    3 Rumi Suizu 46.66 89.03 135.69
    4 Mutsumi Takayama 53.70 80.38 134.08
    5 Erika Fujisawa 43.42 82.84 126.26
    6 Hikaru Nasuno 43.80 80.11 123.91
    7 Aki Sawada 45.72 75.86 121.58

Surprisingly, Suguri expressed the intention to continue amateur skating after this competition. As long as she doesn't receive international assignments and federation payments, maybe it's none of our business. Suzuki skated near clean programs. I wonder if she had peaked at the wrong time again, or just she didn't have any pressure in this field.

    Senior Men
    1 Tatsuki Machida 76.84 135.05 211.89
    2 Kensuke Nakaniwa 61.82 122.73 184.55
    3 Akio Sasaki 58.72 108.21 166.93
    4 Yasuharu Nanri 66.54 99.18 165.72
    ......
    11 Kento Nakamura 33.49 91.01 124.50

Kento Nakamura... what can I say about this guy? It's lucky that the Japanese junior men had a spot to waste. Nanri and Nakaniwa are already reported to retire after this season.

Japan Junior Highschool Championships (Jan 29-31, Nagano)

    Junior Ladies
    1 Risa Shoji 52.68 100.38 153.06
    2 Miu Sato 45.82 93.12 138.94
    3 Yukiko Fujisawa 50.34 87.64 137.98
    4 Ayana Yasuhara 47.18 89.03 136.21
    5 Satoko Miyahara 43.84 90.80 134.64
    6 Kako Tomotaki 48.88 85.32 134.20
    7 Miyu Nakashio 43.38 88.78 132.16
    8 Honoka Kawanishi 45.78 80.78 126.56
    9 Ibuki Mori 44.40 78.85 123.25
    10 Yuka Toyama 44.42 78.33 122.75
    11 Shori Tanikawa 42.42 79.37 121.79
    12 Minami Hanashiro 44.84 75.82 120.66
    13 Riona Kato 46.56 73.74 120.30
    14 Haruna Suzuki 45.30 73.34 118.64

Looks like some of the participants are directly from National Sports Festival in Hachinohe. There are 75 junior ladies skated the SP and only 18 of them can advance to the FS. The cutoff point was even higher than junior nationals (and probably junior worlds of this year). Fijisawa's 3A attempts was reportedly a two-footed half turn short of the rotation, perhaps resembling Takahashi's "quad flip". Miyahara had two falls in total.

    Junior Men
    1 Shoma Uno 52.19 108.93 161.12
    2 Shu Nakamura 44.72 96.61 141.33
    3 Sei Kawahara 44.07 94.67 138.74

No. Asada was doing shows in Nagoya at that time. Usually JPN top skaters don't participate intercollegiate. This is the first time Kozuka competed.

Kanako Murakami wins Aichi Championships with flawless performances.

    score is 194.31 (63.75 + 130.56 )

Despite the unclear prospects of worlds in Tokyo, Murakami says:

I'd like to do my best. Now is the very tough time (for the earthquake victims). If there could be a chance, I wish my performances to give some energy.

    ETA
Although I'm also not sure about the prospects, the Japanese sweep could be a real possibility. For overseas skaters, please keep in mind. You will need to skate better than Murakami to medal in Tokyo or any other places. Probably NO error would be allowed.

    All Kansai FS Championships

    Junior Ladies
    1 Satoko Miyahara 105.04 (60.16+44.88)
    2 Hinano Isobe 88.80
    3 Saya Suzuki 85.97
    4 Rin Nitaya 84.57
    5 Ayana Yasuhara 82.88

The protocol shows the top 4 landed 2A-3T. Miyahara finally passed 60 points in the TES. It's quite promising for a junior debut in the next season. Riona Kato competed at Gardena Spring Trophy in Italy, winning Novice Ladies by 102.79 points. The contents are not so bad. There are only four program components.
