Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy of Germany recaptured their European title lost last year in the Pairs event at the 2011 ISU European Figure Skating Championships. Defending champions Yuko Kavaguti and Alexander Smirnov of Russia settled for the silver this time , while their teammates Vera Bazarova and Yuri Larionov claimed the bronze - their first medal at Europeans.
