Jason Brown was AMAZING! What was NBC thinking?!

I don't know what happened to my old Jason Brown thread, but this kid just totally deserves his own cheerleading thread! Here's a YT video of his PERFECT National's FS, not as clear as IN's but no commentary.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5d4knHCWuY

I can't help thinking watching him that he is the rightful heir to Michelle Kwan. He got me more excited than any other skater at National's, male or female, single or pairs. Just wow! Can't believe NBC just skipped over his FS altogether!

He's totally got the whole package: jumps, spins, footwork, transitions, musicality, lines, artistic interpretation, audience connection, "it" factor -- all those things in spades and more! Wait until he gets his 3A and maybe quad, plus more physical strength, which will doubtlessly come with age, and then watch out! I hope he gets there before Patrick Chan retires, I look forward to a good battle between the two.

Thanks for the clip! WOW, I really enjoyed Jason´s skating style in that freeskate programme and hope that he will get the 3A soon and of course a quad, too. I especially loved his speed and the way he moves on the ice. He sure got a huge applause, and it was well-deserved.

I noticed this link for a Jason article (originally posted on FSUniverse):

Thank you Feraina for the clip which said his music was a Puccini violin concerto. When I saw the comp, I thought he was skating to Turandot.

Jason Brown is one of the two skaters of today who does not oversell his tricks. They appear to be just steps in a non-stop routine. It's that non-stop program (with no Falls) that makes him a Dancer on Ice. Hope he gets the almighty Quad for next season. One other skater has that non-stop program was in either Novice or Juniors. His last name is Walker whom I will also be following next season with anticipation.

    Here's a HQ version of Jason's FS

I watched the NBC broadcast online and read about Jason's skate then finally found it to download the other day. I was so impressed by the skates of Dornbush, Mahbanoozadeh, Rippon, Messing and Miner but IMO this tops the lot - no triple axel not withstanding. I thought he was wonderful and can't wait to see him develop over the next few seasons. A bit more physical maturity and strength, a triple axel and hopefully a quad and this boy will ROCK!!

Oh, wow. Thanks for sharing, feraina! I'm impressed. Nothing is forced, very natural expressiveness, and his transitions are "real" transitions - no delay before the jumps, but true lead-ins. Seems like a very nice boy, too. Someone I'll be watching from now on, thanks to you.

Wow! I enjoyed that! I also loved his short program. Can't wait to see what this next year brings for him. Maybe he'll even get at GP event???

If it's any consolation, they did the same thing to Keegan last year.

They didn't just skip over it -- they started their live broadcast after he had skated.

It's nice that they showed us the last nine skaters. It would be better for us diehard fans if they showed us the last 12 or the whole event.

But if we're going to have a live broadcast starting partway through the event, then good performances that occur earlier in the skate order are going to get missed. :(

Here's the link to feraina's original Jason Brown thread after Sectionals in November that's since been archived: http://www.goldenskate.com/forum/sho...er-Jason-Brown
    Excerpt from my post:
Jason Brown's long-time primary coach is a woman named Kori Ade, and he has also worked with Rohene Ward who is listed as one of his choreographers (over the past few years I've observed that Jason has adapted some "Rohene-sque" spin positions and other cool moves) -- his USFS/Icenetwork bio has a lot more information about him (I can't post a direct link here). I've had the pleasure of watching Brown skate at Nationals (Novice bronze in 2009 and Junior gold last year) and really am looking forward to his continued development.
As soon as Brown had finished skating his Nationals FS, I tweeted about the audience's standing ovation for him -- it was very exciting to watch in person! Now, if only NBC had read my earlier tweets about how well Brown was skating in the practices I saw, then maybe they would have started the live broadcast with him!

From the Phil Hersh article (linked above):
Brown, now 5-5, said he had grown 4 inches since the 2010 nationals.
    ...
But Lysacek's barely noticed 11th-place free skate at his first senior nationals was a far cry from the dazzling effort Sunday that earned Brown seventh in the free skate and rousing acclaim from the Greensboro Coliseum crowd.

"It was a dream come true to get the audience to stand,'' Brown said.

With his long hair tied in a ponytail that bounced off his neck as he flew around the rink, Brown had huge jumps, striking speed on his speeds and leg extension worthy of a ballet leading man.
    ...
With the problems caused by his growth, Brown and Ade, his coach of 11 years, decided to put off trying the triple axel for another season.

"In his first year as a senior, it was more important to show everyone he could skate,'' Ade said. "Jason has really proved he is a solid competitor.''

Brown goes on from here to the World Junior Championships, Feb. 28 to March 6 in South Korea. He likely will continue to compete on the Junior Grand Prix circuit for a season or two more.

I'd like to echo the thanks for the link feraina, that was a great skate. It's interesting to see how so many of the more younger and unknown skaters had such wonderful skates during US nationals this year. I hope he gets a 3A soon!

OT, but does anyone have Jonathan Cassar's LP from Nationals? I heard he did quite well but haven't been able to find his gorgeous LP anywhere yet....

That's just spectacular. He skates like a Russian of the glory days - such soul, posture, strength, and soft knees. He has a silkiness that reminds me of Johnny, but his pure style and that marvelous long-legged line is his own. I also love the contrast between his pony-tailed adolescent face and his princely skating style. If I had to bet, I'd put my money on him.

I was there and it was an incredible experience. The whole audience was up before he was done. He has such an elegant, expressive way about him, not to mention beautiful technique on his jumps. By far the most moving program of the afternoon. I was upset with NBC but I know he will have his day. Congratulations Jason!!
