It is no secret that figure skaters make either great spokespersons, or look good in commercials. The following were from the last year (2010-2011ish) alone:

yeah Diet Coke was a huge sponsor of Kurt

my favorite was a Target commercial that featured Scott, Kurt and Katia. She gives them both gifts and she's telling them about how she thought of them when she saw them and she took a lot of time to have the gifts wrapped, and the boys just tear through the gift wrap and boxes... and they pull out sweaters and they both look so dejected lol

there's another one where she's trying to talk to them and they're playing video games. These were done around the same time as the Target Snowden skating films came out (which I loved)... I can't seem to find the ads on YouTube though, but I'm pretty sure I didn't dream them up :laugh:

Deal. But there'd still be all the billions of ads of current Japanese skaters starting with the very prolific Mao Asada. Figure skating is popular as all hell in Asia right now, so that's not a surprise.

What is a surprise and what makes Alissa's Super Bowl ad memorable is that figure skating is all but dead in the public consciousness in the US. And to see a current top skater appear in a major US ad is a good kind of shock.

Unless what you want in this thread is a comprehensive listing of all ads with figure skaters in them, which is a fine but lofty goal.

That would be Madison Chock, she of the thousand o-faces during her and partner's very memorable Cabaret routine.

As for the first ad with a figure skater in it, a movie poster with Sonja Henie on it? Although I'm sure she was in advertisements of one kind or another before that, and other skaters before her.

And I'm sure there are old school painted advertisements in magazines and newspapers that depicted figure skating without using an actual well known figure skater.

If anyone can find anything like that it would be delightful to see!

Wow.
That must have been an expensive item at that time (like a century ago).
And those boots look too soft at ankle to protect her. Maybe in those days they weren’t doing too much jumping, I guess.
