This was a very well skated event. The top 13 skaters had no falls. Furthermore, the top 6 all landed triple axels. Keegan Messing's Robin Hood program had both the highest TES and highest PCS. (Go Keegan

I can't wait til Jason has a 3 axel because he's definitely better than the hulk:laugh: but good for Keegan.

This is true. Jason needs the 3A, and thinks he's close to it. His 2A is high enough and technique on it good enough that he should be able to.

Keegan's choreo in the SP is great, but the Hulk LP from last year just looks too "young" for him to me this year. OTOH, how hard is it for a kid from Alaska to get to this level  The place is not full of coaches and choreographers, for sure.

As I said in the 3axel of this season thread, Keegan Messing has the second highest average +GOE of solo 3axels this season, behind only Nobunari Oda! And he once again scores with the jump in this competition, earning +1.86 on his 3axel here. It's by far the highest +GOE for the jump in this segment, with no other skater scoring higher than +1 on the jump. The little dude can axel! And he not only had the highest PCS, but has the highest individual score in every category of the PCS (which I am a little skeptical about but I haven't seen the competition yet).

Golden Skate fave Jason Brown did quite well... for someone without a 3a. In fact, he is the highest ranked skater without the 3axel, and higher than some skaters who attempted the 3axel with errors. Also of note is that Brown is one of only 3 skaters in this segment to score level 4 on all 3 of his spins. He had an edge call on his 3lutz (not too surprising, his never looked like he had a true 3lutz to me), which got him a -.5 in GOE when he should be earning a +GOE if he didn't have an edge call. Something for Jason to work on besides the 3axel.

7th place Han Yan (who also got all level 4s on his spins) had the highest +GOE on the combo jump, with a +1 for his 3flip/3toe (a few other skaters got +.8 on theirs).

2nd place Artur Dimitriev and 13th place Jorik Hendrickx are tied for having the best 3loop, with GOEs of +.7 each. Jorik is the final skater to score level 4 on all his spins.

Keegan and 4th place Alexander Majorov are tied for having the best step sequences. Their straightline step sequence level 3 each got +GOE of .79. Looks like Keegan hit a bullseye with that one! ::Groan:: Footwork fans should watch out for those.

That's not that noteworthy (the PCS). In general, if A is better than B on PCS, they win on EVERY category of PCS. A demonstration of not judging COP correctly.

That triple axel though? Monster.

Keegan's axel is awesome! At Nationals it was huge!!!

btw, Keegan's SP is a very interesting program to watch, and if you have only seen his LP, I recommend that you take a look at it.

Keegan mimes shooting an arrow a lot in his SP from what I remember. Just in case you forget it's a Robin Hood SP!

Really though, I love the little dude. Although a lot of my fondness comes from his Hulk FS. Yes, it's young and the musical cuts are a mess (which screws with the choreography too). But I was a total comics geek and the idea of such a little guy skating as the Hulk cracks me up. All the Hulk motions in it! His outfit! The Lonely Man theme! Although I liked his old Hulk outfit where it's a ripped dress shirt with green limbs better.

And there is a thematic unity to using Robin Hood and then Hulk for his two programs: They're both based on movies. They're both superheroes (really Robin Hood was the superhero of his day). They're both heavily associated with the color green (Robin Hood traditionally wears Lincoln green). They're both outlaws. They're both characters acquired second-hand by Disney (Disney did the Robin Hood cartoon, not the soundtrack that Keegan is using but close enough. Disney also bought Marvel but only after Marvel released The Incredible Hulk which is the soundtrack Keegan uses). Both soundtracks are from movies distributed by Universal Pictures. Both movies starred William Hurt.

I liked his Gremlins FS more than the Hulk. Especially since it starts out with the 20th Century Fox theme  He's got a sense of humor.

I really wish he could splurge and get a different choreographer. I understand his loyalty to Rory, but he needs to step it up a couple notches.

That all being said GO KEEGAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He freaking rocks. I'm so proud of him!

Jason Brown is going to be tough to beat once he gets the 3axel. Would love to see him skate his LP like he did at Nationals when he had the crowd standing even before he finished.

(Great post.)

Congrats to the little dude! Can't wait to see this on Youtube.

Congrats to the other Americans too. Sounds like they all did great jobs.

Joe, the link is on the previous page. (Thanks, DeMarinis5.) Also if you subscribe to Ice Network, Keegan is the first to skate in the Men's SP at 22:45 where he scored 69.79. The video quality and camera angles are better there and the program comes off much more powerfully, IMO.

It's nice to see a Canuck and a Swede in the Top 4  (and coincidentally, both Rogozine and Majorov are Russian-born).

Very nice skate from Jason Brown. I don't understand his low PC's tho. I agree with the TES because he does not have the 3A.
5's in his PC score seems pretty low to me.
