I am and was prepared, my dear. What I wasn't prepared for was the language you used which I had to edit from your initial post. While opinions (both positive and negative) are expected and even welcomed, I still expect members to follow the guidelines.

Unless I misunderstood your original post, "we don't need judges here" seems to indicate that you did not welcome criticism of the photo in question. I did take that as a bash.

No need to defend yourself - just watch the language of your posts. To say you "find something distasteful" is acceptable. To say, "dressed like a slut" and "sleazy" is NOT.
Should you not understand, feel free to PM and me and I'll be happy to answer any questions you have.

Thanks, but I do understand. I did edit my own post to "fit the guidelines"--but thanks for letting everyone know what I really thought! :D

I was wondering why some people needed complete strangers to be "supposed role models" for their children. I think I understand now.

I am deginitely not crazy about skaters doing those pictures. To me, the question is not what can be seen, but what is the intent. The intent of such pictures is to have men look at them and [you know].

OTOH, I find this "cheap publicity" less objectionable than some of the perhaps more accepted kind. One example that comes to mind is Oksana taking a whole huge film crew to document her encounter with the estranged father. For my money, I would take Jamie's "publicity" any day!

Maybe because they're very proud of their bodies and don't feel the human body is anything of which to be ashamed????

It's a question of MODESTY not are you proud of your naked figure?

she might as well just come out and tell her millions of 14 year old fans to walk down the street naked.

Well, gee!

First of all, I see nothing wrong with the ONLY photo I could see which is the one with Jamie's back to me wearing a bikini bottom. Heck, I was stationned on the island of Crete and during the summer, everyone sunbathes topless (well, not me). And it would crack me up when my oldest son would say "Hey, mom, look at the boobies." So, what's so different here?

Personally I find the Victoria's Secrets fashion show on television more disgusting than this.

I don't care much for Jamie and David's skating, but hey, she is a beautiful young woman. It's her body. If she wants to pose like that, so be it. Michelle posed in a bikini. Sasha had that long-legged, sultry pose in those pictures of hers.

There are some positions in skating that I find distasteful, but hey, so do quite a few other figure skating fans. But this is after all my own opinion. I choose to agree to disagree.

I really don't care WHAT Jamie does. After listening to her whine for weeks after the SLC scandal, I was turned off on her.

This photo shoot seems to me to be just another bid to stay in the public eye, and sure doesn't even begin to approach the lengths other celebs have gone to to promote themselves (Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Madonna).

All in all, a ho-hum.

:sheesh:

Good observation, Euterpe. I was thinking the same thing. She pretty much admitted that in the article that accompanied the shot.

I think there are nude or unclad portraits that are considered art, I don't think this is one.

I don't think we should be so hard on Jamie about that. You train and dream your whole life for this Olympic moment, you skate great, and then a judge comes up to you afterwards and says, "Hey, sucker, I voted for the other guys because my Federation Chairman pressured me into it...

...oops, no he didn't, I was framed!"

Or, as Phillipe Candeloro put it: Of course figure skating contests are decided by backroom deals. Otherwise, no Frenchman would every win a medal.

I'd be mad, too.

so her butt was supposedly covered... I'm so "impressed" by her issues of modesty... maybe I'll go to class tonight with just my white undies on...

She's a beautiful woman. I don't find the pictures offensive at all.

I have teenage daughters and what they see and hear these days, makes Jaime look like Mother Theresa. I actually called my eldest in to see the pictures. I wanted her to see that a woman with a REAL figure (full hips and small breasts) can be considered sexy and beautiful. Girls are constantly being held to an impossible standard of beauty. The damage that does is what's obscene. As a role model, you can easily find many worse than Jaime.

It was the almost the same in my house, but I called my mother to show her. We both agreed she looked beautiful, we were both glad that she didn't look too thin, which is a good thing (but fit)

And then, because I can think for myself, I put my pants on and went to class.

love you last line.

Let me say something else.

I did not watch this on tv but I read a small article in the SPORT section of the Globe and Mail...yes the sport section. When was the last time S/P were in the sport section...2 years ago. Go figure. The article was a cut and paste of what was printed in the Edmonton paper and it was okay. Me being a fan who did not like what she did thought the paper will be hard on her. Nope...the staid and conservative Globe and Mail did not make a big fuss about it. Weird. Then I wondered if she will post on her site. She did!.

One interesting thing about her post is that while fans are commenting about her body not been ideal, she is happy with it and likes how the pictures came out. I find that interesting.

Other than that, I hope she learned something about it and does not do it again. Jamie go back to skating :D Suffice to say, she went on and promoted her show in Frankfurt and the SOI. That is more what I want to read in the media or on the net. Phew!...

I'm kinda curious about perspective now. American society was built upon puritanical values. Other parts of the World are comparatively exhibitionist - think Rio's Carnivale, topless beaches, etc.

Also, I think stripping down for magazine pictures or film, etc feels a bit more impersonal than posing nude in front of the actual people. The camera people are usually professionals whereas the public oglers are not. Compare it to watching a love scene on film (not porn) vs seeing a couple making out in public (even if it's just kissing and/or cuddling). The latter seems much more of an invasion of privacy.

Personally, I haven't gone nude in public, but I've walked on a nude beach inadvertently - no one notices unless one makes a big deal about it. I didn't even notice until my friend said 'You know we're walking on a nude beach now' I think if I was in Europe and accompanied by a boyfriend/fiance/husband, I would consider going topless on the beach - just wouldn't go nude in front of 'just friends'.

Since I didn't want to risk SPAM, I've only viewed the one picture. In the articles, Jamie does say that this was not something she had planned. Evidently, she decided that she's comfortable with it. If you're not comfortable with it, don't look at the pictures.

Also, some people seem to think that kids will emulate their role models in all aspects of life which doesn't really happen. While many may want to emulate Brittany et al, parental influence is generally much stronger.

The important thing to remember is that it is Jamie's choice to pose for these pictures. She may or may not regret it later. It's not really within our rights to criticize her....after all, who hasn't done something that someone else wouldn't approve of?

Modesty - she has always been modest in her choice of clothes. You never saw her without a fabric to cover those low necklines costumes and off ice she always covers up. Modesty is not something I would say she lacks. Why she did it? even though I am a bit curious, I don't have to know...
